My grandparents had the same car - a Bel Air 2 door sedan. It was gold with black interior. 6 cyl, auto. I don't think it had any power options or a radio.
Yup, that certainly looks like a grandparents car that got handed down to the next gen who just "drove it, wrecked it and never checked it" as the saying goes.
That thing is frivolous, it's a Bel Air, has whitewalls and has an automatic. Dad went for the Biscaynes with standard trans & blackwalls.
As for the Chevy six, in our '70 we crossed the country pulling a trailer, having been to Vancouver Island all the way to Newfoundland. We also drove along Route 66, crossed the Salt Flats on the way to California, been to Beverly Hills, San Francisco, and even dipped into Tijuana, plus we made several trips to Florida in it. It had been on logging roads up north and in Quebec. The only time it needed a tow was after it cracked the distributor cap during a flooded underpass crossing in Kentucky (I still have the Chevy brochures from the dealer that fixed it during that trip in '73).
I'd love a '69 Biscayne 427/425 with an M22 in the same colour as that Bel Air. Hmmm...

Years ago when I had my 69 Biscayne 2 dr sedan from AZ (327, PG, AC, PS, PB, Tint) I considered installing a 70 Biscayne front clip and rear bumper to make a one of none 70 2 dr post. I even found a 70 biscayne 4 dr donor car. But it never happened. Too many other things happening at the time and I ended up selling the car less engine. It still exists but it is in very poor condition now as opposed to when I had it more than 30 years ago.

LOL, certainly some of us just weren't made to drive 6 cylinder vehicles! Maybe we're impatient? I don't know....
I think its these old straight 6's Carl, they were boat anchors but the norm in Canada. My 90's Bonneville and Olds 88 with the 3.8 litre V6 had as much power as most V8's, my Murano has 265 HP from 3.5 litres and flys, its even got tap shift and sport mode. That Nissan 3.5 V6 is very strong.
We had an 87 Grand National for 9 years. Nice enough car, looked great, one of the faster cars I've owned but we traded it for a 94 Impala SS and to this day I've never regretted getting into an LT1 by getting out of the Grand National. 6 cylinder, fast, cool package but there's something about a V8...
Bad thread derail here, I take full blame for it!

A friends cousin had a 65 Strato Chief with a six and three on the wheel. His house was on a bit of a hill and his wife backed out of the driveway, pulled it int first while rolling backwards let the clutch out and twisted the pinion off in the rear end. I have never seen that happen since. It probably had a defect. Ended up changing the rear, but it wasnt a problem finding one as this was forty years ago! Man I am getting old.
Here John, I made up a '70 Biscayne 2-door out of a '69:
Love the concept. It shows just how nice a car it could have been. Thanks.
By the way, IMO, there's nothing wrong with a properly built inline 6, even in a big car.
That said, I share Ray's views on late model V6 cars. Ten years ago I had a small V6 Mercedes C class that made over 200 hp and was very quick and agile.
