Chevrolet S-10 "SS"

I didn't know there was an SS version of the S-10. While nothing to write home about regarding power they are kind of interesting. I found this one for sale nearby:

(not my photos)

While they only had 180hp 4.3's, they did have limited slip differentials (3.42 gearing), bigger sway bars, special grille, driving lights, and Camaro style wheels, Production for 94 was 5670. In '96 they got the ZQ8 suspension which lowered the truck 2", larger sway bars, Bilstein shocks, A rear "anti-hop" shock and a faster ratio steering box. They were discontinued in 1998. They only came in three colours: Onxy Black, Summit White, and Apple Red

The seller of the one near me wants $5700. I think that's a little high even though it has only 122k and hasn't seen snow. Maybe $2500?

Anyway, I learned something new as I don't remember seeing these when new.

That's a right sized truck imo. I'm going to disagree with you on the engine, the 4.3 is literally 3/4 of a 350 and if we take a 1981 Z28 with a LM1 for example that 350 did 185 HP and 280 foot-pounds. I think this 4.3 is on par with that, they make close to 300 foot-pounds. It's not a smooth engine but its no slouch and loads of torque, at least in my experience driving them. Not easy on gas though.

I'm not dissing the 4.3. I've have S10's with that motor and while it's a good engine, it would have been more fun if the SS had an 8 in it.

 Too small in my opinion.

There was a black one owned by a co worker in the 90s. He swapped wheels so he could run cheaper 15 snow tires. He went to Walmart and they would only install tires that matched the door sticker due to liability insurance. He went home and took the wheels off and dropped the wheels at the auto department and had tires installed on the loose wheels. That was the strangest thing that they didnt have a problem with that, but wouldnt install the tires when they were on the truck.

Costco has the same protocol too. Took my old car in and they couldnt find the 64 tourque specs plus my tires were a little bit bigger so I had to go home and bring in the loose rims. Removes the liability for them. I also had to do that for my wifes SUV as I didnt want to use run-flats so I dropped off the rims. They still honour the warranty though and fixed a leak we had.

Great shape and just the right size of a truck I am looking for.

I would have no issue giving $5000. for this low mileage, rust free never seen winter truck.

The drive line is something I could handle with just a service manual and Rock Auto.

I have a lot of Scottish in me so I'm a little cheap lol. I've had three S10's over the years. Two had 4.3/autos, one had the 2.5/ 5 speed. The 2.5 truck was super reliable but not great at Hwy 401 speeds!
