What are old car magazines worth these days?

My former Phys Ed teacher (I've been out of school over 40 years) and I kind of keep in touch.  He always liked to talk cars with me when I was in school and even then I knew he had all these magazines. He likely has 200-300 from about 1960-1966 'ish. He called me today to say he's downsizing and wants to get rid of them. I asked if he was selling or giving away. He said if they are worth something he'd like to at least get something for them but I don't know what to say. He says he thinks they are Car Craft, Road and Track, maybe Motor Trend and Hot Rod? Not really certain.  So I need some input from anyone who has knowledge of something like this being bought, sold, given away, whatever to help put a value on them, even if the value is $0.

I sold a whole bunch from that era back in the late 90s. Made OK on them, usually a couple of dollars each. I sold one special set of 3 (Project X 57 Chevy) for $60.
That said, the shipping costs these days have gotten so high, I am not sure if it's worth it for the buyer. Look at eBay and see what they are selling for.
I still have a couple of hundred from the 70s, 80s-90s

I would say it depends on the magazine title and the articles within.

Back in the glory days of eBay (mid 1990's) I'd pick up old car magazines at yard sales for a quarter, cut up the ads and put them on eBay. I'd make easily 50 bucks per magazine. I remember getting $35 for on Shelby Mustang ad. Today, with 1 billion ads on there it's tough to sell anything. Sadly, I don't think old car magazines are worth much especially as a lot.

I would say about 50 dollars for the lot.

Zero unless some really really wants them. We have discussed this before and unfortunately they just aren't worth anything.

I have donated 30+ years of Super Chevy to a high school auto class and recently 30+ years of Car Craft to the

East London Timing Assoc. I do not keep any subscription mags anymore.

Used to put them in a box at car cruises with a sign "PLEASE TAKE SOME" and it would empty quickly.

Still have lots of Hot Rod, Car and Driver, Road and Track etc and even some Canadian Track and Traffic.

Depends how much time one has. If he has the time resources to post them on eBay it Kijiji, he might want to organize them in batches. (1960-65 Road and track including tests of the following models... $50.00 or best offer, not sold individually.). Otherwise one big batch listing on Kijiji $100 OBO). If you felt so inclined you could post it for him and deal with the rif raf email responses and filter out the legit ones?...

I don't think he could be bothered with sorting or clipping pages and selling them. He's more bent on getting rid of stuff and moving.

Now that I think of it, maybe that would be a good retirement project for me this winter, I hadn't thought of that. Maybe I'll offer him 50 bucks..... hmm........

Probably worth about a buck a piece? I bought around 70, 1959-74 Motor Trends from a member here, and I think I paid around 70 bucks.

Fun going through them, but once you have, they will likely sit for a long time again. I'm thinking of moving them on to someone else.

In the pre-internet days I would pay $5.00 or more at flea markets for old Hot Rod and Car Craft mags from the 50s to the 70s.

In recent years I have not had to pay more than 1.00 for any title I have bought. This was really evident last year at the Carlisle and Hershey swap meets (by the way 2020 Hershey is cancelled for this year, for the first time in its 65 year history)

So the bottom line is that magazines are not worth much in today's market.

Kind of interesting that the AACA has already shutdown Hershey for October but Spring Carlisle, is still rescheduled for June 17 to 20. Even if you might consider going to Spring Carlisle the earliest the border might open is June 21.

I've got approximately 400+ sitting in the basement- most in binders according to publication- and some in plastic tubs and are in 95-99% mint. All are colored paper clipped as per manufacturer- Chevy/Ford/Mopar- for easy searching for production numbers, paint codes, decoding etc. Most are from the early '80's up until 10 years ago. Lots of real good articles regarding the rarest of the rare.
