1970 Catalina ?

Inquiry ... Was it possible to buy a new 70 Catalina from a Canadian dealer back in the day . I just saw a 70 Catalina with a 400-US Pontiac , US cowl data plate . Apparently bought new in Canada  .  I remember hearing that this was possible ... just need it confirmed

Yes... but they, not all I am sure, were built in Sainte-Therese. The Canadian ones that I have seen and documented.  I have a 4-dr h/t with a 350. Cheviac has them as well. These were added to the registry years ago... I am sure there is a thread on discussing them.

Only Catalina was built in Canada, the other US nameplates were easily purchased in Canada in 1970 and in fact inter-dispersed within Canadian models in some versions of the sales brochures and dealership floors.

Catalina, Executive, Bonneville, Bonneville Safari, Grand Prix all sold in Canada in 1970.

Thanks guys .... this one looks all original. It does not have the Chevrolet frame , has the 5x5 bolt pattern , and the rear wheel opening is off by about 3" . So i would assume this one was made in the US , and sold new at a dealer here in Canada . Really interesting to see the differences. Steering wheel , door panels , Fan shroud etc...

As a kid we had our 70 454 Parisienne 2 dr hdtp, but knew 2 families that had 70 Catalina 4 Dr hdtps. All purchased at Central Motors in High River AB.

Not necessarily built in the US...(pic of the tag would have decided this) They were American cars assembled in St. Therese with no relation to the Canadian Pontiacs with the references you gave. The 2 examples I gave show this.

70 Catalina's had the same door panels as the 70 Laurentian's, both missing the large plastic chrome piece behind the armrests.

This may explain why I came upon a 70 Catalina 4 door HT at an abandoned car auction in the early 80s; in all likelihood it was Canadian built and sold.

However I was not aware that such a vehicle could be purchased in Canada in 1970 until I learned of it on this site several years ago.
