This is something only Joe will know about (and maybe a few of our older Manitoba members).

40 years ago today I was working in an auto supply store here in Morris, a few months before I started my career as a GM parts guy. My old boss from the auto parts store still lives in town. He called me today and reminded me that Joe's dad, Don Percy did his famous "Don Percy growl" on his morning radio show in Winnipeg on this day in 1980. He would do this for women who were pregnant, over due and really wanted to have their baby! And my boss called to remind me today that Don's growl worked for his wife that day, she had her baby less than 12 hours later!

Growing up in Thunder bay in the late 60s/early 70s I remember my dad commenting that Don Percy was his favourite radio personality having a morning show on  CKPR

Around that time there was some contest about guessing what Don Percy looked like ( or something like that),  At a certain point his picture was posted in the local paper  -it definitely was a picture from the heavy duty brylcream era.

 

Anyway our family moved to Winnipeg in 1973 and a year or two later Don Percy showed up in Winnipeg as a morning radioshow host on KY 58- apparently he was a friend of Peter Young.

He was a breath of fresh air compared to other very staid radio hosts at the time.
