Are the side louvers on correctly? Looks like they've got the opening towards the back. I can never remember which way is right.

The opening faces frontward. They always seemed a little backward to me, as they dont go with the natural flow of the car. The correct way, also adds drag under acceleration!biggrin

I thought it was opening facing forward.  To me opening facing rearward looks backwards.

Isn't the idea being that this is supposed to similate openings that would allow cooler air in to cool the rear brakes?

Yes, but.... Pontiac decided to incorporate some of the purpose-built race image car stuff, like body louvers that evoked images of Ferrari with the Testa Rosa & GTO. Unfortunately GM brass would not be receptive to fiddly stuff like brake ducts on a million seller. Beside, Ferraris were so exotic while mainstream GMs were so civilized & reliable for the masses who just liked to add gas and go.

Ah the 1960s. Simulated mag wheel covers, simulated louvers, fake scoops... Still I love them just the same. Styling was one of the most important things and I think they did a great job for such a huge corporation bound by a conservative chain of command.

The louvers look great on the cars without the skirts, but not so much on the car with the skirts. Too much visual competition in that space IMO.

The skirts look funny with the side trim as well.  They must have been add-ons, I'm thinking.
