"Want an all-new 409? Sure, piece of cake.

Wanna step it up to a 509?

Yep, we can do that. In fact, even an incredible 609 is possible."

RE: Chevy 348 and 409 Strokers

Keep scouting for fire trucks. In Ancaster was a pair of 1963 GMC T980 tilt cabs with 409s. They also used to have a 1953 Ford F500 Marmon-Herrington 4WD tanker with a sweet-sounding flathead V8 for rural fires.

Back in the 1970s I learned a secret that a 454 crank could go into a 409 block without too much trouble, creating a 496 (utterly huge for a street engine back then). W-motors were considered mainly oddball obsolete engines back then but have regained a cult status since.

Back home where I'm from, an ole buddy of mine inherited his father's cement company and all his trucks had '09's in them. he parked them in the back lot and I don't know what became of them. Always been a fan of them 'W' motors........

The second picture is a high compression perf block the first is a low compression big truck block. Its easy to see the difference. Many lower horsepower car blocks have one relief cut.

With modern parts, the double notch 348 truck block can make 4-500 hp.
