67/68 full size Pontaic rear bottom trim clips wanted

I'm looking for the clips that screw to the body for 1967-8 Parisienne bottom trim between the rear wheel opening & the bumper. This is basically an extension of the rocker panel moldings. Apparently there's 3 clips per side that hold the top of the molding. It's those 3 clips per side that I'm looking for.

I went up to a 68 Parisienne I know of in a farmers field and was able to source 4 of the clips.    Attached is a photo of the drivers side trim, a piece of the drivers side behind the wheel opening that I cut off, and the clips.    The passenger side was completely rotted away.   The clips go into oval slots in the body, and the trim sits on the top of the clips, and then the trim is screwed into the body on the bottom.

If anyone has more clips please let me know.

I have a pair of Catalina fenders and they did have bright trim. I'll be at the storage place in the next 2-3 days. I'll check to see if any clips are still in place.

Thanks John. If they're present, I can give you instructions on how to remove them.

I haven't been there for several days but I have to go there tomorrow.  I'll check and let you know.

Thanks John. The clips just press into an oval slot in the body. The clip has a metal part (that has the oval tongue that goes into the slot in the body), with a plastic or mylar film behind it (between the metal part of the clip and the body). The film seems to be hot riveted onto the clip.

A trick in removing the clips is:
Use a putty knife to get behind the film, all the way around the oval. At that point the only thing holding the clip is the metal tongue into the oval hole in the body. If you can get to one of the ends of the oval, use a narrow blade screwdriver under the film, and gently pry the metal clip up out of that end of the oval. Once it gets started it'll pull right out.

Clint

I went to the storage building again today and looked over the fenders. It appears the Catalina moldings and attachment hardware are different than for the Parisienne. Either that or they were changed during some past bodywork on my fenders, which are pretty rusty in the bottoms.  There were no oval clips in place such as the ones in your photo. Are the ones you need only found on the 68 or are you also looking for ones from another year?

I only know of one abandoned 68 Pontiac in my area, a Laurentian 4 door sedan that does not have bright rocker moldings and probably not even a front clip. I don't recall seeing any others.

In the meantime I wonder if Dale Flatla may have some. You know that place better than I, and that he has a number of 67-70 Pontiac B bodies in his yard. I got some Chevy stuff there last year but also saw quite a few Pontiacs, (though not the white 69 Parisienne 2 dr ht or the pair of 69 sedans I know are there somewhere; those I could not find).

Based on how much surviving sheet metal I have seen in Alberta and Saskatchewan, I'm thinking that somebody in Western Canada must know where there's a field car with these clips.

Best of luck in your search.

Thanks for looking John. I'm headed to Flatla on the weekend, and will take a look. Not sure if 67 are the same, but I suspect they are. I'm hoping a 68 Safari Estate wagon will have them, but that's just a guess. I've got a few other things on the shopping list while I'm there, nothing big though.

If you want to know where the 69 hardtop and a pair of 69 sedans are, I could likely grab an image from google satellite view and point them out. I had been there many times before I stumbled across the pair of sedans, and I'd never been to the area with the white hardtop until last summer.

Clint, Thanks for your offer of that info.

Next time I go to Alberta and Saskatchewan,  I'll ask you to send me those co-ordinates as I want to go back there again at some time.

Also I'd be happy to hear if you find the clips or any other good parts.

When I go there I'm always struck by how many good parts that Dale still has, even though my two visits were 11 years apart.

Last summer I also found a mint grille and a very good front bumper for a 65 Dodge Monaco, which I brought home for my brother.

Had I had the time and space in my truck last summer I would have  liked to pick a few more 65-70 B body parts from that yard.

Today's visit to Flatla Auto Wrecking paid dividends as I was able to score some of these clips. Now if I ever get around to mounting the rear wheel to bumper lower bright work.
