Unusual Mecum lot

I was looking at the Mecum Indy results and found this unusual lot. Not quite up to Mecum standards!

Ya, I saw that too and thought Mecum must be stretching. Somebody liked it enough to pay US$2200.

Good start on a project.......smile

That sure would have been a cool car, 300 horse 4 speed...

At least you know it is highly unlikely to be a fake.

Don't get me started about a car a friend bought from a Mecum auction, police were actually involved after the sale.

And Michigan rust! Probably the trim tag and vin will migrate to another car.

If the frame is still straight, or even if it has a tweak, it is enough to work with if you have an experienced puller with a rack. There's a guy at Team Chevelle that bought a '65 Malibu SS with L79 that had been rear-ended badly. It all pulled back and the car is gorgeous today. I also heard of a '69 Chevelle SS396 3-speed, same thing, the restorer decided to pull out the crumpled quarter panel with a puller to rough it in for new metal. There was a low "pop" and the quarter sprang back into pretty decent shape. A little finesse with heat shrink hammer & dolly and it was reused! Of course it didn't have the tinworm like that Mecum convertible, but that car really isn't that bad. It might even be a better starting point than an eight-owner Beaumont with Bondo cracking & rust repair that goes so deep that it points to a proper burial.

What used to be considered throwaway decades ago...

reason for edit, it thought "8-" meant a wide-eye smiley.

I saw a car that looked that bad abandoned on the side road the road in New Orleans, except the back bumper was dragging on the pavement. As I sat in wonder while waiting at the traffic light, low and behold, a guy walked up to it, got in and drove away!

They allowed open liquor in cars too. I remember my wife was driving over 80 mph on a causeway, and traffic was blowing past her at 100 mph. Oh, and it was pouring out ohmygod.gif
