Absolutely nothing personal, but the above two posts are perfect examples of what I said earlier about many posts being simply "blah blah blah." No content, just personal opinion, nothing in the true spirit of the old car enthusiasm.

I have to agree.  While I'm sure Carl and Darryl are just giving good natured jabs, it does get old after a while.

I've said this before on this site, but I'll repeat it - although I have great affection for Canadian Pontiacs (and offshoot GM of Canada brands, i.e. Beaumont, etc.), I also have great appreciation for cars made by other companies and thus have never been stuck to one particular brand, I just buy what I like.

So, if I come to a Pontiac site, I expect to see a certain amount of ribbing for anyone owning other brands, but after awhile it's "oh yeah, it's this again".  But it's not unique to this site.  I once belonged to a Mopar club, when I owned a number of Mopars, and it was the same thing, talking about those "Chevy guys".  I also found that tiresome.

I can see both sides, but at the end of the day I always expect old car guys to respect others' cars, and when they don't it makes me wonder how much appreciation do you have for the hobby.  We're all in this together, as we're a small percentage of the population.  We need to support one another, not dish out insults because your mind is open enough to like something other than this small portion of the hobby that is devoted to GM of Canada vehicles.

So... "can't we all get along?"  wink

Thats a little much suggesting "nothing in the true spirit of old car enthusiasm". Those two have contributed greatly to the success of this site. Take a look at their topics started list.

Owing that, I would think they might just be entitled to a little "blah blah blah" from time to time? No?

What exactly is the spirit of old car enthusiasm? Must all replies have content?

I can't speak for others, but... mutual respect sums it up for me.  It shouldn't have to be explained.

That's all I'm going to say on the subject as I've said more than I had intended already.

Have a good night, all.

Fair enough.

I have only seen it a handful of times here where the lack of respect is ever real and pointed. That being said, even a small negative comment can rub someone the wrong way, and I'm obviously not immune to it.

As I said earlier, I had no intention to rub anyone the wrong way. However, I do not believe that anyone on this site is "entitled" to anything more or less than anyone else. Thus, cdnpont, my answer to your question is a definitive No. As you know, "content" is open to much interpretation. My definition of "spirit of old car enthusiasm" is an appreciation for old cars, regardless of make, year, style or model. As MC said, "it should not have to be explained" if one reads the words carefully. "Spirit" and "enthusiam" are strong words. I do not read posts just because any one individual makes one, how many posts one has made, or how long one has been a member of this site. I readily admit that I do check on topics upon which I am interested or have something to say. And yes, Mark, I readily admit that much of the "blah, blah, blah" rubs me the wrong way because I find it akin to BS.

Interesting conversation. I would like to add to it but am trying to think this out so I'm not pouring gas on the fire. The Ford jabs just make me laugh each time they come up and I actually enjoy them because they are sometimes meant to get a reaction and to me it doesn't get old. I'm obviously far from the smartest guy on this forum too. I'm proud of my Ford Econoline pickup and I have the same Chevy-Ford confrontation with my good friend and across the street neighbour every other day. It's part of our life. He is a die hard Ford guy and I have mostly GM products.
As far as entitlement I may disagree just a little on that. These 2 guys that are beating up us Ford guys are a couple of the most involved and dedicated members on this site in my opinion. I've dealt with them both and have gotten to know the one fairly good and I think if I was to give leeway to some jabbing and so forth it would be to people like this. When you contribute hundreds of dollars to the site, probably thousands by now like these guys have and are always ready for a comment even on something boring or ready to look up a parts number or some info I can't say enough. I know one thing for sure, if these guys were gone tomorrow so would I. I'm not trying to pick sides here but a little jabbing here and there hopefully can be okay. I realize we all have various senses of humour and also thinner or thicker skin but end result we want everyone on here and hopefully with a little give and take we can all survive as this has to be one of the best car sites ever. I just didn't want to stand by and see these 2 members thrown under the bus for a little Ford humour. Hope this comes out in the right way and not in capital letters.

To be clear, I am not intending to throw anybody under a bus.  I have much respect for both Carl and Darryl, and even though we've never met, I would consider them friends if we did.

I'm not particularly upset by any of it, perhaps a little frustrated by some of the negativity in conversations in other threads as well as this one.  Looking at the big picture, it's just an internet forum -a diversion- meant to be fun and lighthearted, and should be kept that way, so enough said.

I certainly don't want to be the reason that anybody leaves the board, and I recognize that I don't contribute as much (or perhaps... anything) to the forum as other members, and as such I don't want to cast a shadow on it and ruin it for others.

Carry on as usual, and have fun with it.  Sorry for my part in this thread.

All very thoughtful comments. I don't disagree with anything said here. That should put a cap on it.

I like your thinking. I'll cap it and if Todd or other moderators disagree with this they can re-open it.
