So that would be a 455 Olds torque monster.

They sold a lot of Rocket 350s in Delta 88s for 1974. They weren't half-bad for mileage compared to the competition. For a seasonal fun car I would just as soon go for the thirsty 455. Olds came with the big 8.75" diff & used the TH400 even with the 350s.

You know they produced 3,716 convertibles, and probably less than 8% came into Canada, though I remember 2 of them new.

What i know of Oldsmobile, is that they always built some very amazing motors. Especially from 1949 on ward.

I always thought these full sized Olds converts looked classy. Strangely I prefer the big bumper 73-75 models over the 71-72 versions.

1974 Engine specs:

GM Oldsmobile Rocket V-8 350

Horsepower net:

134 kW / 182 PS / 180 hp (SAE net)

Torque net:

373 Nm / 275 ft-lb

GM Oldsmobile Rocket V-8 455

Horsepower net:

171.5 kW / 233 PS / 230 hp (SAE net)

Torque net:

502 Nm / 370 ft-lb

My eyes can't pick up what the engine decal says, my memory is from a friend who's family always bought Oldsmobiles but their Rocket 350 was painted gold and their Rocket 455 was painted blue so I think subject car is a 350. Stand to be corrected but that's what I remember.

Here is a bit of a forgotten variations on these cars - the 1974 pace car edition

https://www.hemmings.com/stories/article/festival-flyer-1974-oldsmobile-delta-88-royale

Oldsmobile must have been trying to get some halo effect from the hurst olds  cutlass 442s which were also used as pace cars in the early 70s74 olds pace car.jpg

An amazing car for so little money. Bernie, has your buddy tried to sell the car state side. American's are far less stingy than Canadian's. I think I have seen this car at car shows in the past. Good luck to your friend on the sale.

I believe the reason this car has not sold yet is simply put, the engine. A collector doesn't want the run of the mill 350 when they add a car to the collection, its not special, they want the big boy, the 455.

As much as we know the car and engine are decent that's my opinion, for me when I looked at it and saw that 350 I was disappointed, much the same as when I drove that forgettable late model XTS. A  car has to be special for someone to want to buy it.

Ray, you are being way too harsh but I agree the 455 would have been far sweeter. smile

If I were looking for one of these cars (be it Olds, Buick, Pontiac or Chevrolet) I too would tend toward the top line engine. But having said that, this Olds seems to be a lot of good car for very reasonable money and I'm sure it will sell.

That looks like a great car for the money. If I had the space I would be all over it. As far as being a 350, those engines worked quite well in the full size cars, much better than the 350 Chevrolet in a full size Caprice. If it was May instead of October it would definitely be sold quickly.

This car has been for sale for several years, always at the same price obo.

This just reflects the market and economic situation we live in.

It truly is a nice car in great shape but apparently that's not enough........no

Just the sign of the times in this very uncertain economic climate. Paying for the roof over your head and the food on your table will always come before a vintage car. I think most of us are in trouble in the future, as far as selling our vintage cars when it is required. Like Bob Dylan said back in the 60's "The times are a changing". hmm

Mr. Harsh here again....come on the market for vintage or classic cars has always been very narrow and it has never been easy to unload one of these. When you are so immersed in something sometimes the reality of world escapes us. No, not everyone love an old car, in fact regardless of what the study that was posted a week ago said about Millennials they want electruc cars and zero carbon emmissions. The new generation doesn't even want to acknowledge history or at least they want to apologise for it and rewrite it. We are screwed hanging on to these old bombs, they are more likely to be crushed than enjoyed after we are gone.

Ray, you nailed it exactly on the head and dead on. Your words are so true, sad yes but very true. I could not have put it any better myself and now i am going to drink a couple of beers and think of far better times.
