1976 Monza Towne Coupe. Moncton, NB

https://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/moncton/1976-monza-towne-coupe-spyder/1516518695

By 1976, the Chevrolet Vega was due for an upgrade and the buyers wanted a larger engine....hence the Monza was born. Built on a slightly larger Vega platform, the Monza Fastback and Towne Coupe were the next generation GM economy car. The "Spyder" package was available on either model but became the preference for the "fastback" with over 8000 being produced. while only 587 Towne Coupes were ordered..... The optional Spyder package consisted of a 4.3 liter (262 cid) Chevrolet V-8, HD sport suspension, special badging and stripes, and deluxe interior. Purchased at "Wheaton Chevrolet" in Victoria, BC in the spring of '76, it was driven that summer to St Andrews, NB where it stayed for the next 40 years. The lady owner flew from BC to NB every July where she summered at the family's estate. In June of each year, the maintenance man would take the Monza out of storage, service it, change the oil, have it safety inspected and licensed. She would drive it during the month of July. When she left for home, it was stored on the estate for the next 11 months until she needed it the next summer....... When purchased a few years ago there were only 27,635 kilometers on the odo...... I have added about 10,000 doing a couple of trips to Ontario, Cape Breton, and around the Maritimes. The Towne Coupe was in need of some "refurbishment" when purchased, so the following alterations were completed when purchased: (1) Removal of the sun bleached half vinyl roof, removal of the dull white paint which was replaced with a fresh coat of original GM "bright white". Note: there was absolutely NO rust and NO body damage other than a few door dings.....all body panels are original and straight..... (2) Seat fabric had signs of dry-rot so it was removed and new fabric and leather upholstry installed. (3) A new factory molded carpet set was installed. (4) Original factory dash was customized and 6 all new VDO guages added, including a new speedometer unit. (5) A "Hurst" Competition shifter lever replaced the original. (6) Up-graded the stereo system. (7) Engine was completely serviced, and performance parts (Edlebrock, Taylor, etc, etc) installed. On the dyno it went from a factory 110hp to 205hp. (8) "American Racing" 14" aluminum wheels installed with new radial tires. (9) Trim and badging upgraded, and new door and trunk seals installed. (10) TH350 automatic transmission was recently serviced. (11) Included with the purchase are 12 boxes/totes/milk crates of assorted mechanical parts, replaced parts, original parts, paperwork and documentation....several years of acquisitions for the "Spyder"....... While not a perfect "show car", and it does have its unique little "quirks", this is a FUN car to drive, always attracts attention, is very distinctive, and in such great condition I wouldn't hesitate to drive it back across Canada to British Columbia tomorrow!!!!!!! Currently sitting in a museum but ready to drive......a new 2 year NB MVInspection is on the car. NO TRADES!!!!!!...trying to downsize..... Asking $10,875.00 but willing to consider a sensible offer from the right person who appreciates this little gem of automotive history??!! It will not be sold to anyone not willing to be gentle and give it a good home.

Interesting take on a Monza, engine compartment looks really good, nice wheels, interior not so much but overall nice little performer I'd say.

I was literally looking at Hurst shifter ads from back in 1977 and 78 last night.

Unique car. My older brother would love it as he had a first year coupe.

One of my highschool buddy's older brothers had a Monza hatchback that he put a 350 in.  Scary car, especially with him driving.  I still recall sensing the body flexing as the tires started to break loose...

I never really got into the coupes, but this looks like a nice example.  Never heard of a Spyder coupe until Todd posted this.  Very interesting.

Ya I saw, he says its good for just over 200 HP so those logs would keep it tamed. I can't see but I bet its still stock single exhaust too.

My older cousin bought one of these new except he had a manual trans and V8, he was an Assistant Crown Attorney at the time and the stories he told about coming across the 401 late at night were incredible, he worked in Peel and lived in Pickering about 70 km straight 401. He was fortunate that he carried a badge. His was Maroon with a black vinyl top and interior. It had white walls and this cool factory wheel treatment as shown in picture that accompanies this.

That car needs a '70 LT1/M22 comdo. Boy would that be stupid to drive. That's what I would do with it. My 2 cents.......
