The Nissan Titan is being pulled from the Canadian market after 2021

Nissan Titan will not be sold in Canada 2021

The Nissan Titans days are numbered in Canada as the automaker has confirmed the truck will not return to dealers here after the 2021 model year. The full-size truck was refreshed in 2020, but didnt make enough of an impression to steal Canadian buyers away from the options provided by Detroits Big Three.

For perspective, Nissan moved 800 of the Titans from January to June of this year, while Ford sold 56,466 F-Series rigs in the same time. The withdrawal is a part of the brands four-year plan to focus on sustainability.

It looks like they put an F150 in a 3D Printer. Anyway 800 sales that's almost hard to believe. Why wait another year?

Ever since the truck debuted, it was plagued by frame problems.

Recalls for cracking, bending and premature rusting, gave this truck a "Stay away" reputation.

Toyota Trucks have similar frame problems.

You have to wonder if the Japan based builders understand North American road salt ?

The issue on the Toyota was the fact the frame was boxed which made it stronger but also trapped moisture and road salt causing them to rot.

Same issue on all Toyota frames since about 1995, still ongoing in all their full frame vehicles into 2012 or so. Seems kinda crazy that this is still an issue they cant figure out.

On the other hand, Ram and GM seem to have a rust problem with their rear fender wells. Ran also on the extended cab rocker area. Big money for pickups that rust like this.

Why wait?  They are already 'set up' for 2021 (i.e. production, sales, regulatory, etc. etc.) - a large investment.  If they were to just cut the '21 model after all that work is done, then they would not be able to recoup any of those costs.  I'm sure that somebody within Nissan is hoping that getting the word out might net some sales for folks who were planning to get one but putting it off since this will be their last chance.  Time will tell if the 'gamble' pays off.

Just my guess, of course...

Toyota understands body corrosion really well.  Note that the Tundra and Tacoma cabs held up very well, just the frames rotted out.  I believe that the problem initiated from their frame supplier.

What surprises me is that Toyota did not pick up on the early indications that they were going to have a big problem and start corrective actions on both market and production sides.  They could have come up with a service campaign to apply some kind of rust protectant to vulnerable customer vehicles in the critical locations and also started countermeasure activity with Dana.  But for some reason they seem to have waited until they simply had to start replacing frames on customer vehicles at big $$$...

I worked in the St Thomas Magna plant for 8 months in 2012 helping to build the GM truck frames.

That wax coating they used back then on the GM frames was very impressive.

I'm sure it's a lot more expensive than paint but it did the job.
