Trip in the 409!!

Left on Monday with my girlfriend to visit a long time friend [since Jr. Kindergarden in the early 50's] 40 miles north of Kingston on Charleston Lake, drove the 64 Impala this trip across hwy 7 to Sharbot Lake then cross country. Car ran great, & keeping it under 60MPH it got some "decent" mileage [17mpg] even with some "stiff" gears out back!!!  Had great weather till Thursday as we were leaving then & poured rain down to Kingston, then even harder coming back along Hwy 2 to Belleville. Sun came out in Brighton, & got uncomfortably warm with no A/C  [ spoiled]  Was a bit hard to handle with wet roads & keeping back tires from " bustin loose" on take offs from lights.  Likely the only trip to be made this year!!! DAM!!!!

Pete, it is real nice to see that you are enjoying that beauty of yours. No dust bunny in the garage and i say good to that. Funny that you were driving past Brighton on Sunday because that is where i was all day on Sunday. With my lady visiting family. Cheers.

How does the Impala compare to the Pontiac wagon on the highway? Is the wagon  more comfortable than the Impala?

These old buckets with big torque and power really are hard to drive in the rain, I really don't like doing it either. Can't imagine what they were like back when new with such advances in tire technology now. I guess there is no degree to Scary, Scary is Scary.

 Wagon is a Hwy car, better gears out back [3:36's to 3:91's in Impala] both 4 speeds. I had seats re-done in Impala with new foam + extra foam on cushions & side bolsters & made it quite comfortable than before!!!  Wagon has "905" strg. box and is better handling than the "ol ram assist" pwr strg. and has disc brakes so stops better!!  Have driven wagon to West Virginia twice, with no back aches!!
