Several weeks ago i mentioned that i passed by this firenza and the small group of classics that keep it company

This past weekend I was driving by and saw the owner in his yard so I stopped for a quick visit

Nice fur accents, complete with big foot go pedal. I have never heard of that model, kind of neat in its own unique way. And that wagon, why can i not find cars like that sitting here in Ontario.

In Ontario you are about thirty years too late to find stuff like this. In the sixties people traded cars about every three or four years because cars didnt last. A ten or fifteen year old car in Ontario in good shape was an anomaly, cars had severe rust including the frame by the time they were eight or ten years old. I grew up in southern Ontario and when in high school one of the students drove his parents old 1965 Ford Galaxie. Coming to school one day the one side of the rear bumper came loose and dropped down. The frame rail was totally rusted through and the rear body mount pulled out of the trunk and let the bumper drop, this was in 1973! It was public outcry that resulted in federal rust through warranties and factory rust prevention practices such as galvanized metal in rust prone areas.

Interesting collection of vintage iron there. The Firenza looks like it once belonged to a very poor pimp. Thanks for sharing.

I never understood why guys wouldn't get their yard cars up on some kind of crude non sinking stands or blocking. At least high enough to allow some air under the cars. Even some old logs or the like would work.

Can't remember the last time I saw a Firenza. I always thought it'd be fun to put a frame under one, a healthy V8 - maybe even a straight front axle to make it a gasser. Given I haven't seen another one for decades, just saving it might be the wise move.

I agree with you, Mark. Get them cars out of the weeds. In most places in Canada, it only takes a couple of years and there'll be nothing left underneath. Its hard to watch.

The Firenza being developed out of the Vauxhall Viva is a bit of a sliding doors point in time. In Australia we also got the HA Vauxhall Viva but it was developed here into the HB Torana, which went on to become the LC and LJ Toranas. The XU1 version of the LC and LJ Toranas were road registered race cars with high compression straight 6 cylinder and triple carbs. There was to be a 308ci V8 version called a V8 XU1, but it never made it to production. There was also a fibreglass bodied version called the GTR-X which also got cancelled. See links below.

Here is an LJ XU1 in action, winning the 1972 Bathurst 500 mile race, beating the big 351 Cleveland powered Falcons home:
