Permanent Day Light Savings time in Ontario

its always hard twice a year when they switch times, and I would like the extra day light at night for sure but kids going to school in the dark is a little concerning.

they want to see if the state of New York and Quebec will change before they make the move

As much as i have always hated it every year, the children in the dark is a serious concern and for that reason i would leave things the way they are.

How does it work in Saskatchewan? Being out of sync with neighbouring provinces would be a pain for doing business Id guess, but we retired people would get used to it. .

Kids in the UK don't walk to school anymore. Mum's take them in what are referred to as "Chelsea Tractors". Often Range Rovers that have never been off road. Twice a day the roads around our schools are completely clogged with them. Far more kids are killed in RTAs from that practice than would be walking in the dark. The origins of British Summertime were apparently a way to help the farmers in Scotland. Farmers these days have so many lights on their machines they often work through the night.

My personal opinion is that messing with our body clocks twice a year indirectly causes even more deaths.   You may need it in Ontario, but we'd be better off without it.

I'm firmly with the Indian Chief.

DST is not the normal time, standard time is. If they wanted to leave it on standard time, the kids would not bee going to school in the dark. Who cares if it gets dark at 8 pm instead of 9 pm in the summer?

I don't know what all the concern is about with kids walking to school in the dark. In Calgary's winter the sun doesn't come up until about 8:30, and we walked to school in the dark for years.

Where I work we have manufactures all over North America that we represent. We deal with different time zones all the time and only have a minor disturbance if any due the DLST changes. With more and more manufacturerss main contacts working from their laptop, phone or what have you I can get a response at most any time from 6am to 10pm.

In my day I walked to school in the dark- sometimes had to hitch hike- and my generation made it through it all right. What this is creating is a softer generation. When the parents are dropping their kids off at the bus stops, you know the 'cord' hasn't been cut yet. Just wrap them in bubble wrap.

My 2 cents as a late gen baby boomer.

I would suppose that most people are aware of the following taken from Wikipedia.

"The Canadian province of Saskatchewan is geographically located in the Mountain Time Zone (UTC07:00). However, most of the province observes Central Standard Time (CST) (UTC06:00) year-round. As a result, it is effectively on daylight saving time (DST) year-round, as clocks are not turned back an hour in autumn when most jurisdictions return to standard time."
