I "built" a 2020 Silverado HD3500 similar to my 1994

I was curious to see if I could configure a new Chevy 3500 similar to my 94 and surprisingly I could.

My first surprise was I could configure a 3500 as a regular cab with an 8 foot box.

I then selected the 4x4 option and the 401hp 6.6L gas engine and 6 speed automatic. Rear end gears are 3.73 (My truck has 4.10 but they are not available)

Since my 94 came with the snow plow prep option I chose the "Alaskan Snow Plow Special Edition ($1775) which gave me:

(KW5) 220-amp alternator

(NZZ) Skid plates

(CGN) Chevytec spray-on bedliner

(U01) Smoked Amber LED roof marker lamps

(DMQ) Alaskan Snow Plow Special Edition bedside decal with bear graphic

(PYV) 18" 6-spoke machined aluminum wheels with Silver painted accents

I also selected the $40 trailer wiring package and $215 splash guards

This truck would have crank windows and manual locks.

I was fully expecting the total price to be somewhere around $70K but was surprised to see it was "only" $51728 before freight and other discounts.

Now back to reality. I'm heading out to pick up a pair of rust free fenders for my 94 for $125. smile

I am surprised by the axle ratio. My 2015 2500 HD is 4:10 with a six speed automatic. The list on my truck was $62,500, but I paid $32,000 when it was a year old. It is a 6.0 gas with A/C, windows and locks.

That is one ugly truck. The front end looks a bit too much like an Aztek for my tastes. I sure miss the mid 90's trucks. They were everywhere for a long time and even now you still see quite few of them soldiering on.

I agree that the 90s trucks were good looking. I like my 2015 also, but dont like the new ones

Thats a fun exercise to do, I did the same thing with my 93 Corvette. Gives you a good perspective of who may have first owned the vehicle.

My buddy was looking for a new plain Jane gm 1500, 4x4, 8 ft box, none on any lots in Atlantic Canada, youd have to get one built. Some extended cabs available with a Mickey Mouse box and cheaper than ordering the plain Jane one. The 2021s have a really ugly front end.

Man, that sure is ugly!  With that flat hood and super tall front end it looks like the driver would not be able to see anything within 10 feet of the front - God help any kid that happened to walk in front of it if the driver is not paying attention while stopped at a signal or whatever.

I dunno, maybe I'm out of touch but $50K for a stripped out truck (even with the functional packages) seems like a lot of cash.  On top of that they are just too big and too tall, without any real practical advantages to it. You could still haul as much stuff in the '94 but not need a step ladder to load it.

Too bad you can't still order a new '94 - I imagine they would sell a bunch of them.

Just my 2˘.
