GM Question, True 138 Car?

Brother in Law bought a 66 Chevelle from the USA a few years back, Told everyone he bought a 66 Chevelle, ss Big Block car

but when he finally got the car from the USA he told everyone that they switched out the Big Block for a small block so

they could keep the Big Block safe, LMAO. Does anybody know a way other than by Vin, to ID a true 138 Car?? Vin Tags have been

removed and riveted back on. Yup Bad sign right there. He swears says he saw pictures of resto, but why take VIN tags off.

some real weird stuff here. Have the car at my house for winter storage. I don't think he has the Big Block engine for the car,

Just making up stories. He's not mechanically inclined and has to pay people to work on it. LOL.

Pretty sure it's a Clone that someone has switched out vin tags.

On many cars of that era the partial VIN is stamped on the chassis. Top of drivers side, on the rail extending from rear wheel to the bumper.

To some, doing a body swap is acceptable if the original body is shot.

The frame mounts for the engine are unique on a 396 Chevelle in 66-67.

The fuel line has to be a 3/8" (although a 327 also has a 3/8" line)

Someone once told me there are unique holes in the dash above the glove box for the "Super Sport". I don't know if that is true or not but if so, you could check because a hole drilled after the assembly line wouldn't be as nice as a stamped one. Also unique holes in the tail panel for the emblem, as well as front fender and quarters if they are original.

SS396 should have the reinforcement between the rear upper and lower control arms.

I know on a 1970 Chevelle there is a hidden VIN stamped upside down on the firewall behind the heater box-I have checked that many times while looking at chevelles-I went with a buddy years ago to look at a LS6 car-we took the heater box off to confirm VIN-he bought the car on the spot-not sure about the 66-67 Chevelles-
Keep on Cruising!

Does have 12 bolt rear end, does have rear suspension reinforcements and does have partial 138 Vin in the trunk water channels on top of the 1/4 panels.
does have weird frame mounts for the engine. looks like a u channel on the lower side.
so quite possible it is a true 138 car, but having Vin tags taken off would still scare me.

All the stuff you say about it sure makes it sound like it's either authentic or a very good fake.
