Seeing these Lagunas now I feel that front design has really aged well, in fact I can see a direct relationship to the 71 and 72 Chevelles. Makes me wonder why not all Chevelles were offered this way in the first place.

For sure! Way better looking than the usual 73 Chevelle. I remember seeing the occasional Laguna at the time and it really turned my head. The regular ones just looked clunky with that huge bumper.
The same can be said for the 73-75 Pontiacs too, the Grand Am front looked so much better than the regular LeMans.
I couldn't agree more. Back when the new 73s came out I wasn't impressed with very many models, primarily due to the big bumpers and the retreat of the true hardtop.
However I liked the Grand Am from day 1; best looking 73 car period, IMO. I also liked the 73-76? Laguna and the 73-75 Cutlass Supreme. I'd love to have any one of them today, but in particular a 73-75 Grand Am 2 door.
