 I bet most of us would line up that front bumper better? Needs 15 inch with dog dish, body colour too with big wide rubber and a non LS V8. I have a ways to go to hit 80 Carl.

It nice to see somebody actually cared enough about such a car to go to this level. And for 20 grand, really, what would you get in any newer car. Not much but guaranteed depreciation. This 61 could be a potential true daily driver with the addition of vintage Air.

While the dark wheels aren't my fave, this car is really sweet...and while a HT would have been one step up, that roofline is still one of the nicest GM ever did imop.

My suspicion is that the owner made a typo in the listing;

He wrote:
"One owner, have all documentation. 78,000 original miles."

What I believe he intended to write was this:
"One previous owner, have all documentation. 78,000 original miles."

It's a nice car, but I'd rather have the same car with "more carb/old car issues" over the high tech issues that a drive train swap like this entail.

Then again, I have been called a "throwback" (which was to imply that I was born a couple decades late) on more than one occasion.

The seller responded to an inquiry - yes, they're the second owner, it was a summer-driven SK car, claims mileage accurate:

"I did the engine side of things, rims and exhaust. Paint and frame work was done 10 years ago but been in storage since. Cars body and frame all original with original floors. Was only summer driven entire life rust was minimal. I have the receipts for all that. Body and frame work was about $30k on its own. Interior is al re upholstered to stock specs. Engine runs strong and cool never had any over heating issues. Very well put together and a definite must see.

Chrome and lamps are all original from 1961 and still look new. That should give you an idea how clean the car has been kept.

I also have the original wheels and 327 motor which I can include.

Entire build has maybe 1500 km."

Interesting old car. My dad had a '61 Strato Chief, pale green, 261 I6, three on the tree, rubber floor mats. The back window blew up after a few weeks - fractured into a million little bits.

I'll stick with my Beaumont, though.

He must mean original 283 or it had a 327 transplanted at some point. I don't think there was a 327 in a 1961 Pontiac (or Chevy)

I caught that too , 327  came on board in  1962.

"The Chevrolet 327-cubic-inch V8 originated with the small-block family of engines 

that first appeared in 1955 with a 265 cubic inch powerplant.

Following with a 283 cubic inch version that appeared in 1957,

the mighty 327-inch small block made its debut in 1962."

Correct.  283, and 348 were the Chebby offerings in '61, with the 409 being a late addition to the stateside lineup.  Plus, of course, the ever popular stovebolt six.  If someone wanted a "W" motor north of the 49th, they had to be prepared to pay dearly for it.
