Is your house lit up for the holidays

Had run out after supper for a belt for my snow blower.

My daughter took pictures of houses with Christmas lights and texted them to my wife.

My display has not changed much in the last 10 years

I think I am about the only one who still uses the C-9 lights that good ol Clark used.

My C-9 string is actually about 30 years, stamped "Made in Canada"

Any other members of the Griswold family out there ?

It would look way better if you'd post a current picture.

RE: Is your house lit up for the holidays - *A SAFETY NOTE*

I have a few strings of LED lights that are now a few years old. I also have several cameras around the perimeter of the house and monitors inside. One evening I noticed that the lights blinked a couple times and while watching the monitor, the occasional puff of smoke appeared from under the eaves. I went out to investigate and saw that the outside plug, under the eave, was on fire. Quickly grabbing a ladder, it was easy to snuff with a rag and yank out the melted cords. I am unsure of the cause or why the breaker didn't trip, but the ends of the light cords are totally melted with bare wires exposed.

So, my guess is that the wires became brittle causing the insulation to crumble allowing the wires to contact and heat up

- something that warrants a regular inspection.

Last year I was up the big ladder replacing one the those high bulbs when the new one exploded in my hand as I was screwing it in.

Unlike Clark, I use ground fault circuits in my home.

Only felt a brief tickle before the power was automatically cut off.

Good thing because it as a long way down !

C'mon people! Lets see those houses, we know there are more. Don't let Kevin's place intimidate you!

Yeah Kevin's car collection intimidates me and now his Christmas lights also. My neighbours will be the only ones to experience our lights.

Ours is very traditionalist;
I don't like the LED bulbs in part because the blue is funny and your can't focus on them, and being an old fashioned guy myself, our house only uses old fashioned bulbs... which are getting trickier to find, so I will admit that the bulbs used are sometimes a little thin on colour.

I have in years past done them across the front eaves and down to the front window and looped it, but I didn't like the look;
Another year I strung it along the full sides of the house (so that the front and side fascias all had bulbs, it looked nice, but most of the lights were not really visible from the street;
so we now have two strings along the front eaves, wrapping up on the side as far as the string reaches.

We do it every year, and some years we are the only ones on our street.

Just recently (as in maybe two months ago) a similar aged couple move a couple doors down, and they have murdered us, but we got the hint that this might be the case with their Halloween display;
Sure enough, Christmas has puked up all over their yard! - our kids (5 & 3yo) ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.  I make a point to slow down in the dark when ever driving by their house so the kids can "oooh" and "aaaahh" at it;
I'd wager they have well in excess of $1,000 in blow up stuff on their lawn, not to mention all the lights...

And as it happens, our community (this will be my sixteenth Christmas here) put up signs announcing a Christmas light contest - so for the first year that I have lived here, there a lot more lights... this year, including the aforementioned neighbours, we are one of four or five people with lights on our side of the street ("U" shaped).

What I don't get, are the little projector things;
They seem like a half arsed cop-out;
I am seeing more, and more people just set one of these infront of their house, and calling it a day - what a crock!

I cannot seem to find any pictures of our place lit up, but I'll try to take one, and share it later...
Our place is more along the vibes of 'cndpont', rather than what '70 SS ACADIAN' has shared;
But at this time, 'cndpont' has more than us :)

Have limited what I display to a couple of candy canes.
First picture is with a flash and second gives a better idea of the street view after dark.

Looks great!

Funny though how your random light colours on the house remind me of my Dad. He was colourblind and would challenge himself every year to assemble strings of lights in red and green. One of my fondest memories of him was watching him working on them downstairs on the pool table, screwing in bulbs and holding them up to the light. Red and green were different shades of whatever colour he could see so when he asked us if they were right we had to ask him what sequence he was intending. As hard as he tried the result was always random!

Thanks for triggering a great Christmas season memory!

My wife and Daughter and I, usually make one big road trip, this time of year, looking at all the lights.

I think our family will take a trip to see this.

80 years ago, my Grandfather was stationed here while he was waiting for his turn to head over seas.

Maybe I'll wave at a member or two while we are up there.

I'll bet there is some nice houses, lit up, in Clinton, ON wink
