A trio of Vega field cars

Spotted today - one of the benefits of the  mild manitoba winter (so far ) is that there is very little snow to deal with

Anyway these were sitting on an abandoned  property IMG_2578[1].jpgIMG_2579[1].jpgIMG_2582[1].jpgIMG_2584[1].jpg- the one with the monza front is probably a pretty rare car - the vega name disappeared in 1977  but the wagon was continued and made part of the monza model line for 1978 and 1979

Also the 2 door is an Astre

Well not actually abandoned... someone lived in that house until a couple months ago. Property sold in late fall.

Oh, have you been keeping an eye on those? Is that your next project, a "Fake" Vega Yenko Stinger? biggrin

A friend's shop is across the street... he was the one that "pointed out" the little trail into the house and a dim light on one evening.

There was also a small private yard of cars on the north side of that property where I purchased a few Nova pieces many years ago. There was a pretty decent Rally Nova there for a long time.

Remember the Yenko Vega in Watertown ?

Yes, that's exactly the car I was thinking of when I asked if you were going to build one. Pretty good bragging rights telling guys we found a scrapped Yenko in a wrecking yard!

Back in the eighties a friend of mine had a Pontiac Astre with a 396 and a Saginaw four speed. The four speed was original to the car, the rear end lasted about 1/2 an hour. The rear got swapped for a v-8 Monza rear.

Whatever the issues with engines and build quality that these cars may have had, they were very attractive little cars in their day, especially the 71-73 2 door hatchbacks.

There were lots of them in my area for a few years in the 70s, then they completely disappeared.

My sister had a 74 coupe in the late 70s. It was still solid then but it would barely run.

There was a machine shop near me when I was an apprentice in the 1970s. They would bore the Vega block and put in sleeves   After having been sleeved they were a pretty good engine.
