Who still has their childhood toys???

The Sears catalog post got me thinking.....I'm a hoarder!!!!!! !no Dug out some of my old toys from when I was growing up. My Meccano is still buried in the crawl space along with the tractor for the Tandy trailer and my Tonka dune buggy. But here are a few that I still have. The plane got used twice and crashed 3 times..... Have a pic of dad and I playing table hockey when I was about 5 or 6 on the same game!!! Will have to dig it up and post!  Some of my toys I still have. Think 1 of the electronic kits I bought for my son. Train was from when I was 8. Have more toys stashed at dads...just need to dig them out!!

No longer have any but that COX plane brings back memories..... finger spinning the prop to start it and the smell of the fuel.

Probably would be considered a terrorist toy by today's standards.

Those Cox planes were a blast and kind of dangerous. I bought my son a free flight gas powered helicopter when he was young. The first flight only went a couple of hundred yards. Little did I know this would have been the break in period. Second flight it went out of site. I still can't believe we found it in a corn field.

RE: Who still has their childhood toys???

Jim, I'll challenge you to a game of table hockey. Boy, did I love those.

Here are a few of what has survived in the last 50+ years. The firetruck is battery powered and still works. The flying saucer and train are wind-up and still work. I'm sure many will recognize some of these Matchbox, Hot Wheels, Corgi and Majorette cars. As for the Carrera Go tracks it's quite a story.  I actually bought the first F1- set when my son was born due to a great deal. Then my friend's son had the same set but because he broke the cars and the controllers no longer worked he gave them to my son. There are other boxes in the same photo which contain all kinds of tracks and accessories which I picked up for cheap at garage sales, all in all there is about 200 feet of track, about 12 cars, several controllers and power packs, lots of fun! We assemble it once a year over the holidays because it just takes too much space. Tghe other toys my son has played with them a few times and they survived.

I have a couple well-used (crushed beyond repair by my Dad's Bel Air tires) 1966 Corgi Batmobiles stashed in a box ... I should dig them out some day.

I have sold all of my other toys (Hot Wheels, GI Joes, etc.) for a good amount of money years ago.

Yup, I still have a bunch of them in storage.  Race tracks, train sets, model cars, Hot Wheels, Dinkys, Matchbox, etc.  Will have to dig them out one of these days...

I was lucky in that my parents never forced me to get rid of my toys when I "grew up" (if I ever have, that is).  I recall a buddy of mine came home from school one day when he was about 13 years old and found all his stuff gone.  His mom decided that he was too old for it and tossed it out while he was not there.  I don't think he ever got over it, actually.

Cool pics, I have a few hot wheels but thats about it. Have really come to appreciate vintage toys these last few years, prices can get pretty steep fast.

laughing.gif laughing.gif  Can't tell you how many times I got numb fingers trying to start that damn thing !! Was never fast enough to get them out of the way when trying to start it! Still have the 6 volt lead. Think they had some sort of glow plug to start???

Still have my Meccano set. Yes I still have the screws and nuts. Rubber tires are perished but everything else is still usable. Even have the wind up motor.

 LOL

My brother had a plane that I remember taking to the Kmart parking lot on a Sunday to try it out.  I remember it taking a few nose dives and him having to try to un-bend the prop washer (?) at the front of it, to keep going.

After that, I decided I didn't want a plane so instead got a Cox funny car with a yellow Vega wagon body on it.  Was supposed to be tethered, but I didn't bother so it went all over the place.  biggrin

Also recall the fun starting it (it did have a glow plug to get it going), the smell of the fuel, etc.  Good times!

My dad and I bought a model kit and an 049 engine for the kit.  Started assembling the model and decided to see if I could get the engine running.  It was about 11.00 am in the morning.

My dad worked the midnight shift at TTC.  I had the fuel, the battery and not much patience.  Enough patience to mock up a mount for the engine and put it in the vise.... just below my dads bedroom.

A few flicks of the prop and the 049 sprang to life spewing fumes all over the place.  Above the roar of the prop there was a distinct thud from the floor overhead followed by a few cursey ... what the hell is going on.....   oh, oh, what to do.  in desperation to stop the noise I picked up a screw driver and thrust it into the prop.

No more noise!!!!!

Well, that model never flew any further that the vise after that.

Dad went back to bed and the model making died.

 biggrin Too funny.

My Daisy BB gun met it's barrel-bending fate at the hands of my Dad in a workshop vise. What were my parents thinking buying me a BB gun and a chemistry set. The chemistry set had a baking soda/vinegar rocket that I used to fire over and over again into the basement ceiling, getting the same reaction from my Dad as your Dad! biggrin

I also had a red, white and blue Cox plane that didn't last too long. It "landed" too many times on the school ground asphalt.
