From the 1959 Eatons Xmas catalogue - a couple of made in Japan tin toys

Here are a couple of flea market finds from a  few years go

I never had these types of toys when I was little - i vaguely remember having some beat up versions handed down from older cousins but that is about it - i was in the dinky and corgi and hot wheels era and wasn't particularly interested in these tin toys

The vw was a fleamarket purchase a number of years ago - it takes a C battery and the motor lights up and the car moves forward - when the motor lights up you can see the travel of the 4 pistons in the flat 4 engine

the 56 chevy pickup car was just a random cheap find -

Wow, that's amazing. I had none of the ones you show but there is a local flea market that only sells antiques. I went there last week to sell and buy 8 track tapes and saw many, many old toys. The kind of place I must go alone and can spend the entire day!

I had a favorite as a child that was stolen from me and was never able to replace. My aunt had gone to Italy in 1969 and brought me this Alfa Romeo Giulia that all 4 doors, the hood and trunk opened. I found a web link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vdke9CpWxDQ

Look at the catalogue pricing. Nothing over $10.00 most under 4.00 My dads brother kept bringing home cars to fix up. Lapping in the valves on a overhead 6. I did buy a couple of Dinky Toy cranes.

Some of the very early Japanese tin toys were actually made from old tin cans. On the inside you can still see the food logos from the can!
