My 66SD, from rags to riches.

I don't think many would have saved this car as it was very rusty, floors, trunk, tail pan, inner outer wheelhouses, fenders, cowls, quarters, hood, doors, new frame, etc. But I thought it was worthy of repairing and I served I figure two years of apprenticing in body repair and welding on it. I was hoping to show it a couple car shows this year but we all know that never happened, so Here is a couple before and after pics.

Has it never been the Canadian Poncho feature car????

I would say it hasn't. Well, THAT is a no brainer for the next feature car....

I don't want to sound like a broken record but this car needs to be at the top of the page for a month as a feature car.

We are caretakers of history with the preservation of these cars.

That's quite the Ambassador,

for all Canadian made cars !

Well you should be justifiably proud. I really enjoyed following your progress and then seeing the beautiful end result. Like you said most guys would have passed on the car and I hate to say it as I am guilty it may have just become a parts car.

Wow, you should be so proud of that work. That type of talent amazes me.
Beautiful. Wish I was your neighbour so I could have slipped over to help (and mostly learn), throughout the process.

Weather was beautiful last week so I went out on a final run with the 4 speed and banged some gears. I decided to make some changes, my oil aluminum oil pan was leaking at the rear main and oiled my new clutch down so I am replacing it with a stock pan. I ordered a Tremec TKX 5 speed which should put me at 2200 RPM at 120K with my 3.73 gears. I am also yanking the thumpr cam out, although it sounds great it isn't very tune-able and will shake the car apart eventually. The practicality in me says to go with a more street-able and tune-able cam and am swapping to a roller setup. I don't want to go through the whole cam break in thing again. So for now I await parts and work to pay for them, lol.

Would you create a new thread on the install and update on the drive-ability? I would be interested in first hand experience not a bunch of comments from the keyboard warriors.

I was trying to get the hydraulic ram on my engine hoist working and when I turned around and saw this view it reminded me of being in my late teens and all the motors we pulled back then.

IMG_3167.jpg

I am pulling it because of a couple oil leaks and I am changing the cam to a roller hydraulic setup. I don't want to ever deal with another cam break in as long as I live. The cam I had sounded great but that is all it did, couldn't tune it and all it did was rattle screws out of the dashboard. I almost put a stroker 383 in it but succumbed to nostalgia.
