Burnt by a supposed fellow car guy...

Just prior to an up coming disappointing Christmas I was stung by someone who claims to be a car guy.

I found an original set of stainless steel skirts on Kijiji and responded. I asked for more photos and was told they were in great shape only needing a polish. I asked if there was a dent and was told in fact yet one tiny ding. I asked if one of the slots was broken as the photo made it look so. To which I was told yes that too. just before completing the transaction I said they look like they have been sandblasted to which I was told no they just need a polish.  Stupid me taking his word for it... spoiled from the honest members here I proceeded and completed the sale without haggling the price as based on the sellers condition I thought was fair.

well Mr. Woody Woudstra of Sarnia Ontario stuck it to me and sent me the junky skits that were all bent and sandblasted and he forgot to mention a hole someone drilled on one of them too. he shipped them using my address as the sender knowing full well he was putting the screw to me... not too smart though he used his old autos with his address to poorly package them giving me his address after all if I choose to visit at some point.

I have spent a great deal of time and effort working on these and still have a ways to go. I hope some here will read this post and remember his name as he has other parts for sale. Please be careful if you come across him  he is a cheat and a scammer.  Please dont take hit work for it. when I let him know what I thought he sold me to bad so sad. please dont get burnt by him.

you can see the before photo and after many hours of work one on my car. Not perfect but decent.

there are POS people everywhere... dont let it deflate you completely.. as it sucks, but there are more honest 'car guys' than deadbeats.. can only hope that he gets some "lovin" in the near future.

As tempting as it is to confront the D-bag, it's not worth it ... his time will come one way or another.

I know you are right... I am not the confrontational type anyways.  A drive by with the shinny skirts would be nice though

Very gullible kid posts an add on Kijiji Looking for a 50 millimeter EFI intake.

He listed that he wanted the one of a 80s Cougar or a Crown Vic.

I had to respond and ask him what he needed it for.

He said for a mustang.

Typical gullible 5.0 brat.

He said a forum told him that either one would work.

I sent him pics of both (I just happened to have)

I explained that despite Mr. Henry Ford's wishes, not all parts fit all cars.

The CV one is totally different and does not have the casting holes that he needs as it draws air from the left of the engine and not the right.

Sold him the the one that would fit his car.

And that's how it should be.

The guy above would have just boxed up the wrong part and made a few bucks off the kid.

Thankfully for us.

There is not many around like the person from Sarnia.

As they say, Karma's a bit##. I think you've got your leg up just by exposing him.

The name won't be easily forgotten.

You're certainly doing a good job taking the high road and not going after him. That says a lot for you.

If he shows up here I suspect he will get run out of town before sundown!

I might have been more upset if I had not been able to get them looking good enough to go on our car. I cant find any to know what they may be worth now that they are decent. I hope I am not buried in them

I may also have a current issue with some parts I paid for on Dec10th. The seller says he is having some trouble with his Interac Banking. I will give him a couple more days and then I am not sure what I may do. Still considering my actions.

That blows. As I found through this transaction the only recourse is calling police and reporting fraud or taking them to court (if you have the information to do so) etransfer offers no protection.  I can tell you this will be the last etransfer Ill be doing to someone I dont know or trust.  PayPal at least offers buyer protection

Yes as a buyer PayPal is certainly the way to go. It sucks being the seller though, they love to take your money in fees.

The seller in my case was very detirmined for an etransfer but after some discussion he said I could send a cheque and that is probably the issue. It hasn't seen my bank account yet so Monday morning I will go to my bank and stop payment and then I bet we will see some action. In over 30 years of buying/selling parts this is only the third incident I have had. I was able to resolve one of them but I had to bite the bullet on the other one.

i bought an engine from a die hard pontiac guy that had add on kijiji. sent me pics and video of the motor running and all his pontiac cars he owned, he even called me to tell me a little about the motor. seemed like a really nice guy. so i send him etransfer and he says motor will be pulled and can come get it on the weekend . because i lived too far away i arrange for my buddy to pick it up but after many delays on pick up date the guy finally admits he doesn't want to sell the motor and has spent my money ($2500) he sends me $100 dollars and promises to pay it off in a month. well after no more payments and talking to the rcmp i find out that there is not much they can do because i accepted his $100 payment, if i hadn't they could have gone after him. i did eventually get all my money back after a year but i had to get really creative though. first and only time i got burned and i buy alot of stuff off kijiji. other than that guy i have found car guys very helpful and honest.

You know guys, I buy/sell alot of stuff on Kijiji and I have even given someone their money back because after they had a specific item checked at a machine shop and finding out said item(s) didn't pass mechanical measurements. I still have said items but it's all about Karma and integrity. When I put something up for sale I'm more than willing to move on the price just to move it. It's all in the upbringing I say........

This is because you are a straight shooter.

I got ripped off earlier in the year on a square body hood and tilt steering column on kijiji.  Sent money by etransfer and then the guy disconnected his phone and disappeared.  My own stupidity and my own fault not getting enough info on the seller.  He responded to a "want ad" I posted.

Thats the issue, you deal with ppl on CP and you get comfortable or complacent and let your guard down buying or dealing elsewhere and you get screwed before you know it.  I have never had an issue on ebay as everyone has a history and if the history is real short term, then don`t deal with them.

On here...always been 100% straight up.

But even though I can say outside of this group things have always gone pretty well, there has always been just that little inconsistency in the description when I get the part.

There is always just a little thing that gets hidden or "overlooked".

I have been reading this thread and all I can say is I feel bad for you. You had trust in a Fellow Car Guy!.

Well I have been thinking of whether or not to say anything that could possibly make you feel somewhat good about that purchase, but that will be up to you.

I will go on to mention that I have bought several items through the CP membership, and to say the least, I have never had a single disappointment, all bang up Guys.

In fact , one guy by the name of Timbuck sent me a steering column from BC at his cost , would not accept any payment in advance, I received the parcel wrapped in BX electrical cable shielding,  and then I read the note knowing how much I owed him and his return address. No kidding, he would not tell me so I could not send him payment for the column in advance !

Now that is a Car Guy enthusiast,  glad to have had the opportunity Timbuck.

Oh by the way, it has been altered and it is installed.

Best of the Season, Happy Holidays to CP Car Guys and Gals

Dale

I've soured on eBay, Craigslist, Kijiji, and other sites that are open to the general public. Would rather deal on buff boards, like this one, or NextDoor, where folks live nearby and their particulars are known. Not just pure fraud, or skirting the truth, but also the no-shows when I block other things I'd rather be doing to meet someone, and they don't show up, or bother to call. Impunity and inconsideration are the unfortunate bywords of this new millenium. "If it's good for me, and I won't get caught, I'll do it".
