Replacing rocker panels, 2008 GMC

Has anyone here done rocker panels on a 2007 to 2013 GMC/Chevy pickup? I'm planning to start the job on our son in law's truck and looking for any tips. I'm looking specifically for this era of trucks, not the 2006 style and older. There's lots of info online for them but I can't find a single video for the 2013 and down body style.

I know those years had problems with box rot over the wheels, did not know rockers were a problem. Dear old dad should buy them a new truckbiggrin You must be bored of retirement by now. Krown spray even every other year would of saved her

LOL, it's just easier for dear old dad to give up a few days of his spare time fixing rust vs buying them a new truck!

Have done a ton of the 99-07 slip on rockers..just not the later ones. Most need them done around here to pass inspection. Takes a few more years for the later models out west...biggrin

A zip wheel is your best friend...unless you own a plasma. Then it's your 2nd best friend...... I'd cut it on the lip depending on what the rocker looks like?

In my 2010 GMC there are factory punched holes in the door frame and from the back side of the rocker. Nice little plastic caps are over them.

To pass safety I had to replaces the last 18" of the bottom of the drivers rocker. I only took two pics. One of the panel I fabbed and it welded in place.

P.S. I can't weld overhead for the life of me.

Whatever you may be lacking in welding skills, you sure make up with your fabbing!  smile
