Recent Member 1968 Beaumont Convertible.

Hello to everyone from SE Alberta.  I am a Beaumont lover  for many years. I had my first Beaumont in my early 20's, that being a 69 2 dr hardtop...then a 2nd 69 ...and then into my late 20's and early 30's a 68 2dr hardtop. I had been Beaumontless for all of 20 yrs before I managed to purchased my 4th Beaumont, a 68 convertible.

Now this car is going to be my pre-retirement pride and joy.

My 68 Convertible has definitely seen alot of life, and it shows. It was created in Oshawa in late March of 68, and shipped to Carter Motors in Kelowna BC in early April of 68. The original powertrain is long gone...and the existing Sm Blk is dismal at best...Surprisingly...the body is super nice, floor pans and trunk are 95% clean. Being an original Code A Tuxedo Black body with red buckets console interior....I think it needs to stay true to those colors. But...the powertrain is going to be upgraded to a more suitable 396, TH 400, and a 12bolt 3:42 posi. Nothing crazy, just a nice reliable, calm, cruiser. I have taken the liberty to enhance its option list slighty and have sourced and added the factory GM reclining passenger seat, map light mirror, Disc brakes (single piston), boxed rear lower control arms and sway bar, F41 control arm brackets/braces, 1-1/4" front sway bar, 15x7 rallys with short caps, in-dash tach, found an OEM replacement remote driver side mirror, wheel opening mouldings, BB hood, T3 headlights... ........so far.

I am hoping to interact with others here, for advice, parts, and technical assistance.

Thank you again for having me.

Welcome Wayne.

Black with red interior. Does it get any better than that?

In my opinion, I think it really is a great combination, my past cars were two blue and one green.....I often wonder how many 1968 V8 convertibles were this combination with the factory buckets and console???

LOL, why not? Do you think I'd try to rip it apart and turn it into a 427???

too funny....lol....just a mild 396. This car has nothing to prove on a racetrack....it needs to be calm and reliable...with the torque of a Big Block.....simple and pure. Although I did breify....very breifly consider building a 427 and creating a clone " CONROY CHEETAH" car.....but that went away really quickly.

Welcome from Carter Motors country. I remember them and also had a dealership script from them at one time. Glad you found the site.

Yeah it was a nice metal one. Think I sold it for $25 about 5 years ago. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for another. Will see if I still have a picture of it.

Thank you so very much....I am determined to find some Carter Motors information and dealer info...This Beaumont is very worthy to get back some of its roots in Kelowna....I have already purchased some vintage 1968 British Columbia license plates to pay homage' to its BC roots. Thank you so much again!

Thank you for your kind words. I definitely want to keep this car true to 1968 standards...I am not so much worried about numbers matching...casting dates arent really in my scope....just want legitimate brackets and peices to stay true to the factory assembly. I have watched pretty much every last video of chevelles and beaumonts under hood and other areas to hopefully ensure I get it right.

Welcome to CP, great group of guys and info. She looks pretty straight and nice plate. If we all build our cars the same..it would be boring. Looking forward to the build thread!

Yes, we've lost a couple of members here because they didn't like the ban on those topics but it's for the best that those topics stay away. This site improved greatly when that was implemented.

Nice car, and welcome to the board!

I'm always interested when people are searching for their car's original selling dealership.  Hopefully you are able to find what you are looking for.

I just took a few minutes to do some digging myself, but all I was able to come up with so far is the obituary of the owner of the dealership.  He sounds like he was a nice guy.

https://www.castanet.net/obituaries/CARTER%2C_Alan/15312/

Edit:  Also found an article about a donation made to the Okanagan College, there's a brief history of his career in the auto business there.

A "style" article about his grandson (article includes a Pontiac photo): https://www.kelownacapnews.com/life/inspired-style-with-andrew-carter/
