Winter dirt on my 67 beaumont

Hard to read the temp mirror but heading off to work at -32 yesterday

Not to fret,  it will all wash off in the spring.

Atta boy! Do you run with anything in front of the rad? Does she stay up at temp at -30?

I made a custom diamond quilted insulated winterfront that snaps in behind the grill,  just like a bigrig.  I have the doors closed up to only a hole the size of a cokecan and its got a 195.  pumps out heat like crazy, way better than a modern car.   but at minus 32 the guage only gets up to about 165 all day long.

She's looking a little crusty there Dave..... biggrin

Do you plug in both block heaters overnight when it's -30?

Yes full synthetic,  but a can of GM eos to be on the safe side.  I cant plug in at work, so full synth is a must have.  it is not happy with me at 5:00.

second blockheater is there just incase,  i wonder how much warmer it would get with both plugged in? Hmm?

I bet it would blow heat on start up if you plug them both in.

This thing wouldn't even exist after ten of driving years in our ocean climate, and with all of the road salt used. Congratulations on keeping this worthy car on the road and reliable year round.

I drove a 58 Ford wagon for one winter when I didn't have another car. The body was very solid as it had been an Alberta field car prior to my acquiring it. This was back in the mid 1980s. It was a 6 cyl manual trans car with a block heater. It handled very well in the snow and gave off good heat in the cold months. It had foot pump windshield washers. The only real downside for winter use were the vacuum wipers, which were virtually useless for my 90 km/hr morning and afternoon commutes in wet or snowy weather.

I think a through annual coating with rust check, Krown, etc would keep it from rusting, but dont miss a spot.

I have a 2002 Tacoma, rust proofed since new. The rockers, fenders, cab and box bottom are still mint. The ends of the front bumper rusted through, the top of the gas tank had a big hole under a strap, they never got hit with rust proofing. You get pretty well oiled if you do any work on the truck, but the greasy stuff really works.

Looks too like the Beaumont sees a regular dosing of road salt and it is well oiled too. It was a feature car, that explained the regular maintenance needed. Its still here after 54 years.

The problem in my area is they lay down a lot of sand which sandblasts rockers and makes it ripe for the salt water. Mudguards are a must.

You should put an official looking decal in the back window,

"GM of Canada Cold Weather Testing. Unit 67"

I can attest that the 67 is in dire need of a wash..............I see Dave in his 67 often in the morning lumbering down Waverly St........
