Looking for a few 1965 trim clips.

Long shot,

But if anyone might happen to have anything like these kicking around, or knows where to find some, please let me know.

Need 4 for the door trim on my 65. BTW, these ones were salvaged from the Titanic.

Universal snap off's would likely work, but nothing will ever work as good as the factory GM clips. They hook and slide right into the trim as designed. The little ramp up is about 5/16" tall.

Thanks, Mark

Might be your lucky day I think I tossed a couple of those in the trash yesterday after I cleaned up some of that trim I found. I will dig them out and see if they match.

They are as nasty as the ones you posted but they are the same. If you want them PM me your address and I will mail them.

Darn if they aren't the same! But I'll have to take a pass on them Lawrence as they look just too rough to be of use, I really do appreciate you digging them out for me though.

Thank you.

For anyone interested, this is how they fit into the side trim. The hook fits under the lip, you drop the clip down through the slot, then slide it along into position...I think.

The little whisker cutout in the center points down and keeps tension on the clip. Anti rattle?

As you know, these are impossible to find in usable condition. So, since I needed a lot of these, I made them from aluminum sheets and stainless carriage bolts, they won't rust. It was a lot of tedious work but they function as well as the original part. I ground the head of the bolts so they fit more flush, square the holes with a file, and then tweak the edges of the plate to fit snug in the trim.

A comparison:

Those look awesome Steve. I'm sure if you ever get bored and decide to make some more of those there will be a few happy guys that would like to acquire some from you.

Yes, I'm thinking that's probably how it will go Steve. But I have a possible line on some really good used, but it's good to see a home made one to get some ideas. Nice job! Thanks.

Question; what does the clip look like that goes forward in the fender trim?

Tasking my memory on that one, ... but thinking it may have been similar in shape but longer and possibly a slight trapezoid shape?

It's funny, but it's very difficult to find much information on-line about these 1965 fasteners. Kind of a mystery.

Ditto for '64 Custom Sport clips.

Darryl,

Ames sells the rectangular clips for the heavy die cast. They say they are 66 Grand Prix but I believe they fit a 64 Bonneville and Custom Sport.

Bill.

Yes, I remember posting pictures here of 66 Grand Prix clips when I stripped one years ago and the 64 guys seemed to agree it was the same.

Absolutely correct information regarding the '66 Grand Prix clips. They are correct for the '64 CS rocker trim. I purchased 90 of these about three years ago for two other CP members and myself. They fit perfectly.
Oddly enough, I searched for these clips for 10 years before finding them at Ames. It pays not to give up.
