A finish resistant to brake fluid?

Greetings all. I am rebuilding a Bendix Treadlevac for a friend.

It is in a prominent location in his '56 Monarch Richelieu  so I want it to look nice. Is there a finish I can spray on that resists spilled brake fluid? Ideally black, silver and maybe clear.

Sincere thanks in advance,

RGM

Id like to find something that I could do at home too. Only thing Ive had success with is powder coating. I havent found a paint that resists it, and POR 15 goes dull and does eventually peel if it finds a pinhole to get into.

I've used Eastwood Chassis Black 2K on a master before with decent luck. I actually made a small amount up in a cup, then quickly brushed it on the part after having thoroughly cleaned it with acetone.

It flowed out that you couldn't tell it was brushed on. But I think it's only fluid resistant, and will never be 100% "Proof", but it does seem to take small dribbles no issue.

How about a Black or Silver Tremclad spray, then top it with some SprayMax 2K clear?

Short of some kind of anodizing or plating, I don't think there is much that can resist corrosive DOT3 brake fluid. You could always go to Silicone fluid.

Even hardened automotive clearcoat gets eaten eventually,  powder coat is possibly the only way,  never tried it tho.   all spray bombs last about a day or so.  Clearcoat maybe a couple years until it looks bad.

dot 5 silicone fluid will not eat paint,  but dot 5 is a total pain in the ass to deal with and has no real benefits(even tho all the car guys will tell you its better).  ive been down the Dot 5 road,  never use it again myself

But if paint peeling is the main concern say on a show car or a car that is not driven all the time,  then go with the Dot 5,  but good luck bleeding the air out!

I'd think a good black 2K base (SprayMax makes it), with a few coats of the SprayMax 2K gloss or satin epoxy clear on top, would have to be at least as long lasting as the original Ford finish. You'd be into a about 100 bucks for both cans. So is powdercoat an equal cost for a better product?

Are these units prone to leaking is the question?

Anyway, you are right Robert, the unit is in a prominent spot.

Eastwood makes a paint that's resistant to brake fluid but I don't know if you can get it in Canada

Just a word of thanks for thoughtful suggestions.

When everything is done, I'll clear the bare hydraulic portion and paint the rest black. This with instructions to be careful when filling.

I also use DOT 5 in everything that sits around - with excellent results.

Thanks again,

RGM

I got tired  of looking at the rust on the m/c after spraying it with black paint many times.

My solution was to buy a CHROME one two years ago

Havent checked the quality of th chrome  but at least it is not an eyesore anymore..... time will tell.
