It may have been discussed here but I've forgotten if so. Has anyone bought an item from RA that has a core return, i.e. a PS pump, master cylinder, water pump or whatever? If so, do you have to pay the core return out of your pocket? If so, I'm thinking you're just better off to pay the core charge and toss the core in a lot of cases because the freight may be as much or close to as much as the core charge.

I did return a part that I thought was mislabeled and they picked up the freight. Interesting that they shipped it FedEx to me but told me to take it to DHL(?) to return it. Guy at the depot took a quick look at the label, saw DHL and said " you're good to go"
If you use their return label and take it to their preferred carrier ( DHL? ) I bet they have a terrific rate based on the volume they do
In some cases, it could cost as much to ship back as you would get for the core.
I recently shipped a GM HEI core back and I lost basically half the value of the core return due to shipping.
But, I didn't need another part to store so I went ahead and did it. The core return value was $66 and it cost $30 in shipping.
From their website
How do I recover my core refund? 8
Find the order on our Order Status & Returns page (see "How do I view an order?").
If we charged you a core charge on a part, you will see an "Arrange Core Return" button next to the part. Click the button and follow the prompts to set up your return.
To receive a refund, cores must be returned within six months of the purchase date. You are responsible for return shipping costs unless our catalog or return instructions state otherwise. You may obtain a shipping label from our Order Status & Returns page to take advantage of our discounted rates. The cost of the label will be deducted from your refund. (See "When will I receive my refund?")
Before returning a core, be sure it is complete, fits the same vehicle application as your new part, and is in the box the replacement part came in. Your core does not need to be working (if it worked, you wouldn't have replaced it) but you will not receive core credit if it is smashed, rusted solid, or otherwise unusable.
