Spring Time Surgery

With Spring Time...comes some work...preparing for the heart transplant in my 68 Beau...Already removed the dismal, tired 350...on to a larger 396, Th 400. Trying to retain some purity, I located the correct brackets and odds and ends throughout the winter months, crossing my fingers for a trouble free installation.

Those upgrades are exciting. Good type of surgery.

That's for a 1968?

When I did a small block to big block swap, I failed to address that the Turbo 400 was longer than the Turbo 350, and required brackets further back on the frame rails. Fortunately I was able to locate the frame brackets, crossmember and crossmember hold down brackets from another big block car.

Nice! Keep us posted and don't be scared to ask for help here if you have snags. Lots of Beaumont knowledge around this place.

You know for sure you have the proper oil pan? Some guys aren't aware that the full size and mid size don't share an oil pan.

Yes..a 68 Beaumont Convertible...the boxed frame on the a body cars have a series of drilled holes to accommodate the longer TH400 trans...simply slide the crossmember back to accommodate the length. And yes, I have located and installed the correct engine oil pan, as well as the correct engine frame brackets and engine mounts.

 Headers or manifolds?

Does it already have the 3/8" fuel line from the tank to the front?

It sounds like a nice combination and you've done your homework by the sound of it too.

Please update the swap with pictures as you go, if you are able to!

Nothing like a BB upgrade to make us sit up and take notice. Keep us informed all the way!

With the engine out of the way, I'm finally getting my brake lines lining up ok, and new PB booster installed. Also starting to attempt restoring my tail lights too.

You do nice work.

And you're going to need some bigger/better tires.

Thank you for your kind words, anything worth doing is worth doing correctly. As far as my tires, I am a fan of the 15x7 rally wheels, with the 70 series profile tires. I dont plan on doing too many burn outs, but I am certain the car wont have a problem doing them. I am interested in modestly cruising on nice days, and maybe a few short trips here and there. Kinda figure thats what a convertible is for. Ive added the optional reclining passenger seat option to make star gazing a little easier too.
