Police Pickup Trucks start making appearance in Southern Ontario

I guess we shouldn't be surprised now that Ford does not make any cars.

With 365 HP Ecoboost V6 they gallop to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds.

They should post pics of those trucks all over the place if the objective is to get people to slow down. Buy them in all colours too. That way everyone knows just about any F150 could be police, they are as plentiful on the road as black flies in spring.

With the mass murders last spring, the killer drove a stickered and painted up fake RCMP Ford Taurus he bought at auction. We now have a huge movement looking to get the government to ban sales of used police vehicles, this may lead to a ban on selling F150s.

London Police have been using unmarked Pick ups for a long time.

The are great for catching people using there cell phones.

They mostly have Dodge but also have GMCs and at least one Ford.

They were so successful when launched that they decided to do a media campaign just to let the public know.

Don't think they need a super fast one but vehicle built for police are usual built for safety too.

You can't swing a dead cat around Calgary without hitting a cop in a Ford pickup or SUV. Both marked & various colored unmarked.

I have to admit to getting a chuckle from some of the responses. I live in Toronto and I really mean Toronto, not Woodbridge or Markham or Scarborough and the police department has over 2,000 vehicles on the road, I couldn't possibly say they had  2 Rams and 1 GMC and a Charger let alone their colours. There is no way I could have a mental inventory of the police cars in use. Kind'a puts the shear size of Toronto in perspective.

Darryl is kidding. There's four police forces - Charlottetown, Kensington, Summerside have their own police department and RCMP handles the rest of the island.
The RCMP here have Chargers, Taurus, Explorers, Tahoe's and one old Crown Vic (in the old Blue/White colours) that's stationed at the Montague detachment.

What??? How does a former service vehicle have anything to do with creating a fake?

I mean, you could buy a used white whatever and do the same thing...

Exactly, that seems like nobody has thought it out. You could take a white car/truck and make an RCMP vehicle out of it, even a Cruze if you wanted to.

Our RCMP neighbour had a Caravan home for about a week of nights but it was unmarked and he said he was doing some undercover work. Normally it's a white F150, Taurus or some sort of SUV type Ford thing here though.

There are even Chargers running around as well. There is a black one and a dark blue one. Then there are the very recongnizable- row of antennas along the roof-SRT vehicles. These are the Special Response Team fleet. All blacked out windows, hubcaps and the ever noticeable black fleet sticker on the license plate, all police vehicles have them. There is a white F150 with plate # SEA-811. Be careful out there........it's a jungle. I notice them all.

Ray... You have to get out MORE, covid is keeping you home.  York regional have had a red regular ford pickup for 5 years I know of.

Metro have been using Dodge Caravans for radar work for at least 6 years since I retired...... OPP have everything...Dodge, Ford (lots) GM ....Oh, and the kicker. OPP have been using the new Mercedes big Van, unmarked out of Orillia, for catching cell phone users...(White, no ghost markings, just lights hidden in the front grille, real undercover job!!)

They have all brands and configurations of unmarked cop vehicles around here... pickups, compacts, SUVs, you name it.  Saw a fellow go flying by me in a newer Mustang a few years back, then saw him pulled over up ahead by a lady cop Ford Focus... he looked humiliated... biggrin

Had an RCMP officer give a road safety talk to the guys at work a few years ago.  His 'company car' was a full size brown Jeep SUV with the little family stick figures in the back window.  He said that he surprises a lot of unsuspecting speeders with it... wink

Ya, I don't make it to the highway much anymore, where all the action is.

biggrin I just don't see them, because they are a blur when I drive past them.

I am actually good friends with a RCMP officer here. He is a/the gun range instructor. He does say that the Island force is very understaffed.
