There are the originals on my 66.

Dogdish generally refers to any of the bottom of the car line small caps (also known as poverty caps)  that are only big enough to cover the wheel studs/nuts vs. a full wheel cover.

I've seen the term used from cars on the 50's, 60's, 70's and even some of the 80's cars still had them.

What did they use in the late 60s, the American cars used a cap that had Pontiac Motor Division embossed on them so I guess they used a different one in Canada?

In 1970 US dogdish switched to the same design but with pontiac embossed twice. Perhaps this was a case of The US cars stealing a Canadian part instead otheother way around?

Here's the Canadian equivalent to what North posted:

Dog Dish hubcaps.jpg

They're called "Dog Dish" as if you set them face down they're basically a dog dish.   I've also heard them called Pie Plate.

On the late 60s, it's hard to figure out what paint scheme was use on what model.

My car's original caps are with out paint.

The Strato Chiefs were like this too.

My 66 Strato Chief came with black caps and I always assumed that was original but maybe not?

Sorry, just read the ad carefully, very misleading in title he says $29 with a picture of 3 of them but deep into the description he says $150.

For some reason, some cars got this style. But I don't know the rules.

$50 each ?

What's wrong with Kijiji lately (oh, wrong post)

If someone buys 3 for that price, they can donate $50 to Canadian Poncho and I will mail you the 4th biggrin

I have 5. 4of them not for sale.

They all would have been black, but it fades over time.    People then polish them up and remove the black paint to make them shiny.

 I should have a set of 4, they'll say PONTIAC and have the black paint.  Should be able to post a photo Thursday evening.

With GM they should fit either 14 or 15 ". Do a test fit, they need to be 10" outside mount I beleive.

Just as an FYI:

Those are not "Canadian equivalent";
They are actually one-year caps;
The 1967-1971 caps read "PONTIAC MOTOR DIVISION";
The 1972-only caps read "PONTIAC     PONTIAC"

 I believe they ALL originally had the reliefs painted black, but the black paint could fade, and seems more susceptible to fading on the (Canadiain made IIRC) 1972 caps.

 As mentioned before, the name "dog dish" is purely a nick name, that probably derives from them resembling a dog's water dish.

These are the base caps that 1960's (and others) vehicles would get if no full sized hub cap or rally wheel was opted.
There is a myriad of different designs based on model year, manufacturer or division ect.

Depending on the car's original colour, the steel wheels could have been painted body colour, or black - and with these style caps you ALWAYS saw the outer perimeter of the wheel, as these essentially covered the centre of the wheel and covered the vehicles lug nuts.

Here is a no wheel/cap optioned 1973 Firebird Formula:

Here is the "American version" as seen on my 69 Ventura wagon, they are the factory original and they do fit on both 14 and 15" wheels from that era.  BTW, the actual changeover was mid 70 model year, early 70 American models would have the Pontiac Motor Division hubcap but later 70 production would have the Pontiac Pontiac ones.  This is even confirmed by factory promo photos.

It really is a nice cap isn't it. No surprise they kept that style so long.

And to see it on a clean rim with a vintage whitewall makes it even better! Nice shot.
