New wheels for the C10 - Yea or Nay?

My 78 C10 has Rally Wheels and trim rings and I like these Outlaw II American Racing rims.  I think the C10 will be hitting a body shop soon to try and match the sun baked patina on each side.  This is the good side and the other side has an after market fender on it and a painting mis-adventure courtesy of myself.

Long story short, I manage to find a NOS GM OEM fender from a wrecker in Sask that was manufactured in 1994 (sticker on it and GM stamped into the metal) and landed it in Wpg for under $300.  These OEM square body fenders are as rare as hens teeth to find now so I lucked out big time.  From after market to OEM, there is no comparison in weight and tin thickness, etc so I was quite pleased to get one.

So, with no further adieu, here is a new wheel pic, what do you think?  Yea or Nay?

No comment on the wheels, but congratulations on the fender... the reproductions are TERRIBLE!

I like the wheels. That type of wheel suits the truck. Kind of a day 2 look.

What does the cap look like?

I should have taped the cap on in the other shot but here is a couple shots stacked in the garage. The tires are Firestone 235 65 17 and just a hair more higher than the 235 75 15 Rally wheels. The 15's are 28.9 diameter and the 17's are 29 diameter.

Perfect. You've got them, so why not run them? Store the Rally's for another day.

Didn't GM have a wheel at one time on some special trucks that kind of looked like that? I have that in the back of my mind somehow.

Yes; our 1989  G-van  had a very similar wheel from the factory. Its what I ordered !  They were most often seen on the converted vans like a Starcraft

They look a lot like an OEM wheel that was available. Run 'em.

I think they dress up the truck up nicely, and suite the square body era. ( My $0.02 )

Well, it has been a good thread of offering opinions of Yea or Nay.

Its all good btw, ..... as when I first posted the thread I figured that the responses would draw out very definitive "Yes" or "No" responses and...... I asked for it!!

But, I respect and appreciate everyones input and opinion about a C10 Chev pickup on Cdn Pontiac site! I think it is important to recognize everyone's opinion and not be upset or annoyed that someone's opinion differs from your own. This is why I like this site so much and the members on it!

As an update, I own the wheels and they are going on the truck. I am keeping my sunbaked patina rally wheels and will store them. I am dressing it up a bit and I have a ways to go yet and I need to get the exterior paint or lack of paint to match on both sides. The interior plastics will basically crumble upon touch as that UV and heat of the AZ sun really does a number on plastic whether it was exposed to the sun or not. So, it needs a new interior as well.

These square bodies are starting to dry up in their numbers as well I am finding. Every farm yard used to have 2 square bodies in the bushes but they are disappearing fast. Try finding OEM body panels and you are embarking on a wild goose chase similar to our Pontiac body panels. If you are lucky enough to find some, the prices are typically pricey.

It was fun thread!

I am looking forward to seeing your truck in person one of these day,  i really like the original patina look.  from what i have seen and heard, its sounds like a really fun truck.  and i know what you mean about the square bodies.  they are hot hot hot.  and you are very lucky to own this one!

Just going to close the loop on this thread. I initially mentioned that the OEM fender I scored was stamped out in 94 but it was actually 1998. When I located the fender, the wrecker said they have had it in their inventory since they could remember and said it was GM and indicated the part #. But, I really didn't know for sure as they didn't send me a pic of the GM stamping so I was taking a chance that it was OEM GM.

But, it arrived by Day Ross Trucking, which BTW is an economical way to ship large items across Canada and it was OEM GM! The GM stamping is on the rear side of the fender where it would butt up to the door. I had read online that this is how you determine authentic GM fender for a square body from an aftermarket but I wasn't aware of this info when I agreed to buy it. I know how everyone luvs pics, so here are three more!

I had a 79 Square and replaced the fenders and doors with non GM parts. Nothing lined up. Junk.

I installed quite a few Taiwan fenders in the eighties. The fit was so bad at the hood that I would pound the inner part in where the rad support bolts to the fender. This would close up the gap between the fender and hood. If it was too close you could then shim it out. The doors were also hard to align. Sometimes the top of the door would need to be pushed in. I always found the drivers side would usually fit better.
