There is a Stay Home Order in effect in Ontario so that means stay home in very limited circumstances. It would hardly be fair to prohibit Ontario residents from visiting their cottage or recreation properties then allowing out of Province owners to do so. So even someone like me who lives in Toronto and has a cottage to go to in Ontario is "banned" from cottage country.

It's the sacrifice for erraticating Covid. Too many people people are feeling entitled to do as they want, and it's just prolonging the opening of "things".

To put it into perspective, think of all the sacrifices your grand parents/parents made during the wars/post wars, and Canadian soil as wasn't even affected as much as Europe, etc.

I don't see Canada opening up a whole lot this Summer... and I'm optimist, but also a realist. Be mentally prepared.

I really don't see the harm in going to a cottage property or other second property if you take what you need with you and don't make stops and purchases while you are travelling to and from your second residence.

Agreed, but I totally understand their decision to keep us out of Ontario. If it stays open there will be "cheaters". I've been to our place a couple of times this winter and had zero contact with anyone while there. I was either on my own property or out on the snowmobile. When we did stop the snowmobiles to talk to anyone we left WAY more than 6' separation.  No contact in Ontario for groceries, bathroom, gas, nothing.

It's painful though, my first summer being retired, perfect place to go and spend some time, but we can't.

We have friends who own a home in Phoenix and it's about 15 months since they've been there. As Red Green said, we're all in this together.

Too many exemptions in " shutdown" rules. so INMOP this ain;t going to work!!! It's either all or nothing, except for groceries!!! Most medical experts are saying the same thing.

Definatley trying times and these variants are complicating an already concerning issue. The new variants are more easily transmissible and its affecting ppl and younger ppl differently than the original virus.

I would bet once the majority of Cdns are vaccinated, we will be lining up for a booster shot to cover off the variants and mutations like a seasonal flu shot.

Still pretty much as close to normal as it can be here in PEI. Restaurants open etc etc. We've had our first hospitalization this week. I'm however worried about my son in Ottawa. I REALLY wish he could get to PEI this year.
Luckily he works at large company that makes high end medical equipment doing R& D and he gets a weekly COVID test.

If history repeats it's self, the North and Northwest of Ontario will reopen earlier than the south.

The East Coast Bubble really worked !

The latest order is really aimed at restricting mobility and reducing the risk of more spread. The hospitals can not keep up at this point, Sick Children's in Toronto now has an ICU full of adult COVID cases. Sunnybrook has a field Hospital and more field hospitals are planned. ICU capacity is at the limit. Its not a situation where we think of how this affects me but how this affects us all.

So a guy is driving to his cottage in say his 23 year old Silverado, he's got all he needs for himself and family  but then all of a sudden the bottom end of that 365,000 km V8  gives out and the resultant oil slick causes him to lose control and swerve into a bridge abutment, down a gully into a shallow stream. 20 minutes passes before an OPP on patrol comes across the scene and by now we have a critical case behind the wheel and three others injured. First responders already taxed to max are called and the extrication begins. Hot run in an Ambulance to the regional centre to meet the ORNGE helicopter. As the helicopter comes in over thee trees to land it clips a hydro tower crashes hard and takes out electrical service to the regional hospital and town of 25,000. The driver's wife is quoted in the paper as saying "  We really didn't see the harm in travelling to the cottage."

Today the Prime called a meting of the Atlantic Premiers and asked them to help Ontario with whatever medical resources they can. This is a very dire situation.

I have to agree.  Stricter measures have to be put in place and enforced to give the vaccination program a chance to get enough vaccines in arms to help eradicate this virus.

Right now Ontario is heading in the wrong direction - and to be honest I don't understand why it has to be that way.  I have to assume that people aren't following public health guidelines, or aren't being careful?  I don't know what the answer is there.  I have heard that when one part of Ontario shut down that people would just jump in their cars and drive to a place that was more 'opened up', which is a great method if you want to spread the virus even further.

Nobody tends to consider the toll this is taking on health care workers as well - I imagine there will be a lot of burnt out medical people and perhaps a number of early retirements when this is all said and done.

If I had it my way, air travel, except completely essential travel with quarantine measures, would have been put on hold until this is over as well.  As good as it has been in the Maritimes, every day NS gets 5 or 6 new cases and almost all of them are related to travel or close contacts of those who travel.  We are lucky so far that travellers have been adhering to the requirements to self isolate after returning, but all it takes is for a few of them to say "screw it" and go out into the community to spread it around and we'll be back in it again, just like Ontario.  Or maybe not, as most people I see out are still being very careful with masking and distancing, and lots of hand sanitizing, even with our low case numbers...
