DeWalt with the above features plus a case. It was on sale at Princess Auto. For the amount it gets used it is a good value/price balance.

Bernie I got one at Harbour Freight in Port Huron a couple of years ago (before Covid) for a whopping $10 U.S. You may be able to order one online. It works great for what I have used it for.

I have a Proto and was told long ago never to use a torque wrench for undoing bolts.

There is so many choices now. $49 to probably in the thousands for a 1/2".

If your not assembling aircraft engines, than something in the $150 range would probably suffice.

I have the $49 dollar one and haven't lost a rod yet!

I just noticed Canadian Tire has a sale on the DeWalt, regular $200 for $99.99 CLICK Here

I had a craftsman for years and replaced it with DeWalt.

Thanx everyone for your input. Can't afford Snap-On and won't be getting

to Port Huron anytime soon. The DeWalt Ray linked us to is the one I chose.

Affordable, good name and long time warranty.

Buying at CTC (their website is now user friendly) makes it easier for returns and it

is now ready at curbside pickup about 10 mins away.

Have a great day everyone and stay safe.......smile

I really like my old Craftsman and if I could have gotten the Sears lifetime warranty honoured I would have a new Craftsman. Fact is Stanley, DeWalt Craftsman all the same company now. I was pretty brand loyal to Craftsman since my Mom worked at Sears and got a discount too. Craftsman still says old school mechanics tool to me so I think Craftsman is the one for Bernie.

In my past life,I did a lot of QC work that required ISO calibration of precision instruments.

It should be noted that a torque wrench is a calibrated instrument and should be recalibrated periodically

to keep it's measurement accurate. Last thing you want is to torque a bolt with the torque wrench being out to lunch.

Most new torque wrenches come with some sort of calibration certificate when it leaves the factory.

Dropping it or banging it against a object could put it out.

Here's a "home" method of calibrating a torque wrench that should be done to reassure you that it's within spec.

https://www.wikihow.com/Calibrate-a-Torque-Wrench

There are other similar methods on youtube as well.

I don't think a $10 one should ever need to be calibrated??

Price has  no bearing on the reason you use a torque wrench.

If I was spending big bucks building a motor, or there is a need to torque anything,

I would want the torque to be to specs it needs to be........if the wrench is out of spec and can't be

calibrated, why would you use it?

I thought the general rule of thumb for torquing was "Tighten it until it strips, then back off a 1/4 turn". Have I been wrong all these years? confuse

Todd I think you probably read that in a Ford service manual.

Torque wrench is about $ 900!!! The Snap On tool box I bought from a mechanic that had a "stroke" had approx. $ 45,000 of tools in it & took 5 guys to get it in trailer at dealership!!! I didn't pay that for it!!! but technically "stole it" Yes that was after the FIRE!!!! as I lost everything in that!!! Still go out to get something & stop 1/2 way realizing I lost that!!!
