Sad end of the road for a classy looking English car in a winnipeg wrecking yard

During my recent visit to a Winnipeg pick a part I saw this

the yard was tryin to sell the car as a whole unit for a long time but i guess it was no sale

couldn't have been in the yard for long - when i opened the door you could still smell the leather cleaner

from readiing Road and Track back in the day i remember these came out in the mid 70s as a replacement for the XKE

When there was emission testing in Ontario I heard horror stories about trying to get the V12 Jaguars to pass the test. It apparently was common for the catalytic converters to be bad and the cost to replace them was crazy expensive.

Funny I was just reading on Hagerty about a dapper fella in England who daily drives and old Jaguar and does all his own repairs without a garage

We had a '51 Jag as a project car when I was a kid... quality build. The rear leaf springs were wrapped in red leather, stuffed with horsehair, handstitched to match the red interior. Beautiful aluminum parts on the engine too... we had a lathe at home so I learned a few moves and when I was 14-15 my beaumont was treated to polished brass and aluminum washers, wing nuts, etc during the build...

Went camping back in 1975 ish, woke up and crawled out of the tent in the morning to see a classic convertible xke British racing green tan interior v12 in the next site. Car was from Pennsylvania. A lot of carbs on those things. Old jags were really well built except for the Prince o Darkness electrical. They lost a lot of class after the early 70s imho but still cool to see a v12 in anything. An acquaintance has 3 or 4 of this body style, 1 that his wife knows of.
