May 2021 Feature Car

Our feature car for May is another great example of the "bread and butter" cars that were seen all over Canada during the 60's. Karel Morel owns this sharp 1964 Pontiac Parisienne 4 door sedan. Karel plans to keep the car pretty much original other than a set of aftermarket wheels and an updated stereo. Karel tells us more:

I purchased this car in October 2020. We plan to enjoy this as our summer ride. The car is presently undergoing an engine and transmission refresh. I plan to install new gaskets and seals as well as do some Stovebolt improvements on the head.

It will get new springs, new high pressure KYB gas struts, and new longer wheel studs to accommodate a set of 17-inch custom wheels I also have stock 14-inch wheels/tires, with hubcaps that look similar to the 8 bolt wheels which came on the American full-size Pontiacs.

A number of items were repaired this winter. A new stock muffler was installed. Instead of a stock old school radio the sound will now come from an auxiliary Alpine head unit AM/FM/CD with new Rockford Fosgate speakers. Also while the car was hibernating this winter the dash pad was repaired with new leatherette. Thankfully, the floors and frame are solid original pieces, not patched or repaired which is a bit unusual on these cars that are so prone to rust in those areas. The interior seems to have been redone as new, or is in extremely good original condition,

Very nice original car. Amazing it could remain original over the course of time. Same model year as me!

Beautiful car ( I actually prefer it with the stock wheels), I love the color scheme and condition! Great idea to keep the six banger in her, its part of that cars identity.

Ive come to appreciate the people who ordered quite inexpensive cars back then but who judiciously selected colors and options to make the car look attractive and rich without spending on unnecessary options. This car was a perfect example. Stepping up to the Parisienne, ordering whitewalls and deluxe wheelcovers, choosing a beautiful color scheme, especially with the two tone white roof and blue interior makes the car look rich but sticking with the basic powertrain, no power assists and a utilitarian body style kept the total cost very low. He ends up with a beautiful flossy looking car for probably the same price as a drab looking stratocheif that was ordered with steering, brakes and a base V8. The neighbors wont notice on Sunday at Church what hes skipped out on under the hood

The amazing condition of the paint and trim really make the car stand out.

Congrats!

That combination just looks so timeless. One can imagine the salesmen didn't have any trouble selling that style. It's a winner.

Very nice original car ! Congratulations. There were so many 64 Pontiacs in Timmins when i was pumping gas in the late 60's but not very many Parisiennes mostly the lower model Laurentians with six cylinder/ powerglide combo. My manager in 1975 had a 4 door 1964 hardtop Parisienne 283/ Auto black with red interior. He bought a new 1975 Dodge Polara and was totally disappointed in that car and always said what a huge mistake it was selling his 64.

That is just a very nice car represenative of what every middle class neighbourhood in Canada had in the driveways back in 1964.

I wish I had enough guts to own a car like that.

That colour scheme is perfect, did you get gm paperwork to say how many were sold new? I bet a lot with a 283 or a 230. Classic 64..

As everyone else has said, what a beautiful and original car. I love the look of those 4-door, family cars and to know it has the same 230 and PG.
Love to see interiour shots as well.
Thanks for sharing.

Man, what a sharp looking car!

/download.spark?ID=2398948&aBID=118110

'64 was one of those years when everything on the Pontiacs looked right!  The adaptation to the Chevy chassis on the Canadian versions actually yields the best version of the proportions (IMHO) vs the longer fenders and deck lid on the American versions.

It's so great to see such a nice original example of the type of car that many households would have depended upon back in the day, and it's refreshing to see it remaining in its original form, complete with six and Powerglide.  Beautiful car, and I had to repost your photo above because it gleams like new.  At first glance it would be easy to mistake the photo for one taken by the original owner when he first brought it home from the dealership!

Congrats for being the Monthly Feature Car for May!
