Proposed Hex Chrome Ban in California

Just saw this article in Hemmings that, if it is approved, will likely have a ripple effect that affects anyone wanting to get chrome redone.   https://www.hemmings.com/stories/2021/05/04/ride-eternal-shiny-and-chrome-california-chrome-industry-expects-severe-disruption-from-proposed-carb-hex-chrome-ban?refer=news&utm_source=edaily&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2021-05-04

I was surprised that hex chrome is still being used in California, as they are usually at the forefront of environmental regulations.  In the car industry (at least some makers), they were looking to get rid of hex chrome in their factories maybe 10 - 15 years ago?  I recall talking to some materials guys who were testing alternatives for chrome plated trim (mostly plastic), etc.

According to this page, it's regulated but not banned in Canada:  https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/chemical-substances/fact-sheets/chemicals-glance/hexavalent-chromium-compounds.html

Under the federal government's Toxic Substances Management Policy, HVC require management throughout their entire life cycle to prevent or minimize releases to the environment.

That said, are there still many chrome platers left in Canada?  I haven't followed it in some time, but my impression was that the main guy who did chrome plating in NS closed down some years ago.  I've been out of the loop for a long time, though.
