Putting new inside door panels on my El Camino. But before that was going to install thick plastic stuck with silicone. Read somewhere about using roofing material instead. Are there any benefits using one or the other ?
Tyvek, if you can get a small amount Darryl. Lets vapor out but keeps moisture and air from coming in. Makes sense to me.
If you can't find a small amount, I have a small roll that Randy (ABC123) lent me for the 65. I'm sure he'd let me take enough out of it for the Camino.

All the new modern cars use a thick clear plastic vapor barrier. same as vapor barrier for a house wall avail from home depot. thats what i always use, works good, my cars always sit outside.
I cut it to shape of the old cardboard paper crap. then run butyl tape and press it all on firmly. just do it in the same pattern as the factory stuff, and be sure to tuck in the bottom all the way along that slotted channel, and tape the corners with a good waterproof tape, or duct tape.
Whatever you do, do NOT use silicone, its a rust promotor and super corosive to metal.
I use windshield butyl tape that can be bought in roles, or body shop supply places also carry strip caulking(dum-dum) which works too. i just have found the butyl sticks way better to the homedepot clear plastic vapor barrier.
Sometimes its ok to use unconventional materials, if they work better than the 60 year old technology. I mean, lets use cardboard and paper as a waterproofing material.....DUH!
