1968 Grande Parisienne

I have decided to list my 68 Grande Parisienne for sale here on CP. I have owned the Grande Parisienne for just over 5 years and it is a great numbers matching cruising machine with the 396, TH400, a 2.56 rear end and 48,230 miles on the clock.

I have done a number of changes on the old girl and hopefully made some improvements but my intention was to keep it as a big block cruiser with some tweaks for modern driving. It runs great on stock manifolds, dual exhaust, upgraded HEI, and alternator conversion. The HEI and alternator conversion was already done when I purchased the car.

Over the 5 years, I made these upgrades:

Weather stripping along the roofline, doors, cowl, (trunk weather stripping not installed)

Freshened factory 396 lower end with Speed Pro (.060) forged pistons, resized rods, 6223 forged crank .010/.010, high volume pump, 270H Comp Cam, ARP fasteners on the mains and rods, and the factory stock 3917215 100cc heads, Edelbrock intake, stock Qjet

Saginaw 6 13.1 ratio (3 1/4 turns) steering box

Front disc brake upgrade with C3 spindles / hubs and D4 8 Wildwood calipers along with a 1 1/8 bore disc/drum master cylinder with a new Cardone power brake booster

Front suspension has all newer bushings, ball joints and steering arms, aligned

Speedo Stat cruise (works very well)

American Racing 17 X 8 VN215 Torque Thrust wheels with 235 55 17 Champiro tires

Champion 2 Row aluminum rad, Spectra Premium heater core

All the exterior lights are LEDs except 2 bulbs in the tail lights

Goes with the car:

Original Harrison 2 row rad, intake, steering box, drum/drum master and factory Pontiac air cleaner assembly (no stove pipe)

Original factory water pump rebuilt by Autoline (not installed)

2 sets of Pontiac Rally II 15 x 7 HW rims (76 & 79 sets) and trim rings

Owners manual, Speedo Stat op manual, 1968 Pontiac brochure, various work receipts from 1986, 1987 and 2002 documenting mileage from 28,584 in 1986 to 38,513 in 2002.

In box AC Delco rear suspension bushings (no track bar bushings)

Car cover

AM Radio and front rear controls, rear window defogger, key buzzer, climate controls, remote drivers mirror, lights, signals, wipers, washer all work properly. The under dash GM AC system use to blow cold air but will not blow cool air now however compressor will engage. The clock doesnt work and the dome lens is cracked.

The car had a restoration in 2005 and still looks great but is starting to show a couple of issues. The door pillar on passenger side starting to show some rust and it looks like the windshield channel was repaired (patched?) at the time of resto but I am not sure to what extent. I am sure that the rear wheel well area most likely has fibreglass from the resto but the fender skirts still fit snugly and securely.

The bottom of the car looks good, and intact like it should be. Needs a new carpet as there is a small tear in the heel pad and is fading.

GM Vintage has documented the car with the 396 Mark IV with the build date and options. The engine stamping is clearly visible on the engine pad as the engine was not decked. The engine refresh was completed by an experienced builder that also ran up and broke in the 270H flat tappet cam. The 396 has the stock 3917215 factory heads, Qjet, doesnt leak, doesnt use oil, runs very nice and has about 1700 miles since rebuild.

This car is a highway cruiser and likes the road at about 108 KPH plus with plenty of room to pass if need be. Its not a perfect show car, but a comfortable big block cruiser you can drive to the car shows once they start up again. A solid Canadian made Pontiac big block B body platform with lots of room left to tinker.

$27,000 OBO Fly to Wpg and drive it home! or I could possibly deliver. Cheers!

Some Utube links on a cold start and engine running.

Nice machine and honestly and completely presented. The price seems about right to me too. Should go soon.

Thanks for the comments.

If you watch the second video, put your ear buds in and listen to the exhaust. The exhaust sounds pretty accurate with the plugs in you can hear the dual pulses which I thought sounded pretty cool.

Yes, awesome job on the ad. You should sell pretty quickly.

What are you going to do once you sell? Something else in the works?

I have a 78 C10 that I am cheering up and I am actually using it for hauling stuff around.

I still have a hankering for Canadian Pontiacs so we will see what happens in the future.

Bump!

The Grande has been making regular 120 km runs back and forth, even in the heat, and the dome light has a new lens!

The rear suspensions bushings have been replaced (except the track bar) and it is sporting some 1 3/4 headers for improved fuel economy.

Exhaust manifolds would go with the Grande!

Also, I have acquired a new option in a set of license plate guards from a member (which I have yet to install) and would go with the Grande.

Happy Summer Driving!

Congrats on the sale.  This car has had quite a journey over its life.  From its original selling dealer in Toronto, it somehow ended up in NS (where it was restored), then to Winnipeg, and now...?

Hope to see it pop up on the site again in the near future.  I never get tired of looking at this car.  smile

It's only just beginning its journey, I'm happy to say. it still has to travel another 15,000km (and will probably be two months or more) before I even lay eyes on it.

I'll add some photos on here when it starts its new life in Melbourne, Australia. Very much looking forward to it seeing the road this coming summer. If we ever get out of lockdown that is...

Congratulations on your purchase, youll have a rare car Im guessing when it arrives. Has shipping gone up a lot? It was under US$3,000 last time I got a quote to Australia.

While I'm sad to see it leave the continent, I'm glad it's going to someone who will surely treasure it.

I'll definitely treasure it, my father had a locally assembled Parisienne four door hardtop in gold with a gold interior when I was growing up, so these cars are dear to me. It was factory RHD assembled from a CKD kit from Canada.

He's just turned 80, I can't wait to pick him up & take him for a ride in the new one!
