My old chevies have a flat base and the top and sides are 1 piece. A 62 Chev is this way, a 62 Pontiac is like this 69, flat lid on top. Both 283S.

Sorry for the dumb question, and this is only to satisfy my curiosity, but are those 4 holes drilled in the lid, or is it 4 stamped indentations? They look like holes but sometimes it's hard to tell on chrome in photos. Either way, what would be the purpose of them?
