Cool truck with 305 V6, in later years they used 2 of these and made a V12.

You couldnt afford to drive that today. I have heard that while they were a very reliable stump puller torque engine the V-6 was quite thirsty, although you probably wouldnt drive it that often.

Heard the V12 was incredibly hard on fuel. Lots of cool factor though.

Neilson's had several cab-forward tractors with those V12s, for ice cream delivery, into the early. Can't imagine how much fuel they went through.

It was a lie, these were not frugal on gas. Had not seen those plaid covers before, on anything Ray.

Story goes that they were terrible on gas so engineering started experimenting with timing, cams and carbs to improve fuel consumption.

Engineers started marking engines  and documenting changes. One way was to use shelf paper on engines like the plaid. Turns out the most improved set up had this plaid markings so marketing guys said hey lets use that and tie in the Frugal Scot legend. This was released in 1963.
