FOAM Padding for Fresh Air Vent Door on a 78 C10 Chev

I am still tinkering on my 78 C10 Silverado and the the fresh air vent door in the right hand kick panel that is actuated by vacuum (AC system) is in terrible condition.

The foam padding that is sandwiched between two flat tin plates that are riveted together basically have disintegrated and I would like to rebuild the vent door.

However, I don't know where I can pickup some black heavier foam padding so I can cut out a piece, and put everything back together.  The foam would extend past the actual tin of the door approx 3/4 inch.

The door is approx 5 inches x 8 inches and I measured the foam and it looks like it is 3mm + or a bout 1/8 thick or maybe a little thicker.  The foam is such bad shape it is hard to actually measure it.  I will need a piece at least 7 inches x 10.

So, I am hoping that someone can chime in where I might locate a black foam sheet pad locally so I can cut it out and re-build this door.

Here is pic of a new door from USA industries, but I know I can rebuild this door like new with some new foam.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I don't know how much foam they have but there is a place called Industrial Rubber over on Church that has a huge selection of stuff. Might be worth a call.

Thanks Carl, I will give them a call and see what they say.  I might PM beaumont guru as well and see if he has any suggesions!

Thanks!

Yep, Industrial Rubber would have a 1/8 thick foam rubber padding but the smallest would be 54 inches by 80 inches for 49.95. I am going to keep looking around to see if I can find a smaller sheet.

I can order a new aftermarket door for $40 US plus shipping but I was hoping to rebuild this vent door.

The second link is a candidate, 1/4 inch though, I am going to see if there is 1/8 inch thick from that supplier.

Neoprene Sponge Foam Rubber Sheet Roll - 38cm Wide X 152cm Long, 3mm Thick for DIY Projects - Durable, Easy Cut, Non-Slip and Non-Absorbent

I think this is about the cheapest I could find at $25.78 for 1/8 x 15" x 61"

Thanks for the pointers everyone!

Yep, I think this is the correct stuff.  The foam padding sticks out approx 3/8 from the door and is very soft and pliable, hence making the seal when the vacuum actuator opens and closes the door.  Remember when the actuators were powered by vacuum??

I got the door apart now, cleaned up and painted with Armour Coat rust paint so I am on my way to rebuilding this door.  Some pop rivets, and should be good to go at some point.

I have been snapping some pics so I will post that in "What did you do in your garage" thread!

Thanks!
