Do you have a Paypal account you rarely use?

Effective Nov 20 Paypal will start charging people an annual $20 "inactivity fee".

PayPal and eBay(with their global shipping fee) are both garbage now.

Wow my experience with ebay's global shipping has been something I've been very happy with about ebay lately. I've bought items off guys who use their global shipping and the costs to get it shipped to Canada are a fraction of courier or USPS costs. A small box from the US to Canada can easily hit 50 bucks by mail and global shipping is under 20 bucks.

I got an Email from Paypal telling me their terms and conditions were changing and I actually read the new terms and conditions.

 Ya me too.

I use my account monthly, so no worries.

I have no problems on eBay. I do my shopping homework.

Sometimes I communicate (negotiate) with the seller on shipping costs.

Import fees, I've also been able to negotiate with and get dropped (the seller has an option to bypass them, so sellers tell me).

Most of the time, I try to buy Canadian or International if possible (last week I had a item arrive from Argentina). I save money that way. The U.S. located items are where I find the costs excessive.

Good sellers will want to reach an agreement and sell, I find.

For example this item is 119usd. Plus 18 USD to ship and another 20 USD for import fees?

Secondly, you cant even combine shipping with GSP? (unless you ask seller to take it down and repost in a lot for you if they are willing to sell it to you. And I have had others refuse).

I have bought from international eBay and dont have issues with them because they dont use GSP

But if you want 5 of something from this seller for example. Thats 5 times $18 for shipping and 5x$20 (import fees). versus someone that will ship without the GSP it will cost $20-30 to ship all 5. You take the chance on customs, but pretty sure its a lot less than what GSP is charging.

amazon.com charges import fees BUT they actually refund the money back if not charged the correct import fee. And I received numerous refunds from them. But not ebays policy. Ive never received anything back from eBay and probably dont expect to.

Just got my email today, last nov is last time i used so I guess it's time to say goodbye to eBay and PayPal.

was good while it lasted. Thanks for the warning Todd. Would never have looked at policy if you did not say something.

I've never had to go through that Mike.

I negotiate with the seller before I pull the trigger. There is a way a learned seller can combine shipping on his end. I NEVER pay import charges. I have had a few instances when a seller said to pay the multiple shipping costs for multiple items and then combined the shipping and promised to refund me the difference through PayPal, which they did.

YEP, X 2!  I totally agree with your last statement, "Good sellers will want to reach an agreement and sell, I find."

I use paypal all the time and its secure, never gives me a hassle.  I shop and sell on ebay as well and if there is an issue, contact the seller or ebay for resolution.

I've used Paypal as a guest with my credit card, because that's the only option a vendor gave me, but have never set up an account with them.  If that's the case it should not be the same.

I had considered setting up a Paypal account in the past, but now that I hear this I will never set one up with them.

Inactivity fee isn't the only change.....

"This fee was also introduced in the U.K. back in December 2020.

If the criteria is the same in Canada, inactive accounts are those that haven't been used for 12 consecutive months.

To avoid the fee, you'll need to log into your PayPal account or make a payment at least once per year.

AdditionallyPayPal will not charge debit or credit cards link to your account

and will only withdraw from accounts with a balance in their wallets."

Interesting. My Paypal days may come to an end then because I seldom have any actual money in there. Just have a separate credit card with a very low credit limit at a separate financial institution linked to it. If my Paypal ever gets hacked the hacker won't buy much with his score.

Yup, that's precisely how I do all my online stuff.  I would never feel comfortable giving a company like Paypal access to my bank account.  Seems like there is too much that could go really wrong there.

Whereas, if somebody hacks my low limit credit card (it's happened a few times actually), then the bank just issues me a new card with a different number and I'm good to go.  BTW, each time my card number was hacked, the bank's fraud department picked up on it and let me know.  At least one time the thieves tried to charge items that were over my card limit anyhow, so they were dead in the water...

Too much fraud out there these days, you have to protect yourself.
