I find it ironic Tesla can achieve phenominal performance but they can't paint a car or make a door handle that works.

There is some impressive tech in this car. $136k USD

Some find Doug a bit annoying. If you just want a laugh fast forward to the 31:54 mark

And they are being investigated for running into emergency vehicles stopped at accidents. Their self driving doesnt recognize a fire vehicle blocking the highway with all their emergency lights on.

Part of the problem is Tesla's flawed system and the other part is negligence of the drivers who are lulled into thinking they don't have to pay attention anymore.  Honestly I just wish all companies would just put this whole self driving thing on the shelf until they have perfected a system that actually works in all circumstances.  But they won't, so here we are.

He actually reminds me of a mechanic that I used to work with when he gets so enthusiastic he almost bubbles over.

First thought... where's the plaid upholstery?  I thought when it was named plaid, well...

Second thought... cars like this kind of take away some of my enthusiasm.  If we are moving into a world of silent cars with yokes instead of steering wheels, no transmission function to speak of, self-driving function, etc., I'm having a hard time getting excited over them.  Sure it's fast as all get out, but are you really driving it?  No exhaust note, no gears to shift, not even a steering wheel to finesse if you get a little out of shape (which the nanny software will prevent you from doing anyhow).  About as exciting to me as a high-end refrigerator, if I have to be blunt, once you get over the excitement of all the beer it will hold, there's not much left to keep your interest... aww

Elon is a big "Space Balls" movie fan and got the name Plaid from the term used in the movie:

It would take a bit of getting used to the "intuitive gear selection" feature where the car determines what direction you are going to go when you start the car instead of having an actual gear selector. You can override it using the screen if you wish.

If I was 20 I'd probably find the video game feature cool where you can actually use the "yoke" and pedals to control the car in the game.

If I was silly I'd have the horn play the fart sound (or my voice saying "GET OUT OF THE WAY!" lol

Running 9's might be fun if we had a drag strip in PEI.

I'd really have to drive one to determine if I'd like it or not. On a related note I see the huge Atlantic Canada dealership chain "Steele" just bought out the indipendent used EV dealer in Charlottetown.

I bet Steele is looking for a Tesla dealership. Buying up what talent there is locally for EVs would be a good way to start.

I hadn't realized that Oyster Bed Bridge had closed down a few years ago.  The stock car track is still running, though.

There used to be more tracks in NS closer to the city, but I guess we're lucky that there are still two in operation:

Ah... I saw Spaceballs when it was in the theatres all those years ago.  Had forgotten the Plaid thing.

There are "drag strips" on PEI.wink

In Cobourg ON. it was Theatre Road (the drive-in movie road).

funny thing is, that when plaid was mentioned with a 1020hp vehicle, I immediately thought of Spaceballs.
