Another new fire on Vancouver Island

Not that big of a deal compared to interior, except that fire is fast growing and is 2kms away from a CNG storage facility.

yup 1.5 Billion litres of Natural gas. Could put a big hole in Vancouver Island. Crews hit it hard this afternoon and many will fight through the night.

Hopefully they get it shut down fast.

We've been blessed with three, four-legged companions by a wonderful couple who live almost within eyeshot of the southern end of the runway at the Nanaimo airport. It appears they've had to evacuate, along with 20 horses and a dozen or so canines. Praying for their safety, and that their lovely property is spared.

Oh ya seen that on the news. There has been 20 or so that have been evacuated, but as of yesterday the fire crews seems to be holding it.

Parents live close as well and could not wait it out, Paranoid so they left the day fire started, getting old and slow so left. Have not heard how last night went.

Heard from the breeder last night - they stayed, and the fire turned away. Now contained. They have two, new, litters - would've made for a hair-raising exit. Whatever happened to the Great, Temperate Rain Forest?

Yes the Climate in our area is changing, more higher temps, more dry times. But why?? Who knows.

Hopefully they get things cleaned up quickly up there. Was up the airport Thursday night and got a few pictures.

Hopefully the rain season comes slowly. Have you been here during winter? IMG_1133.jpg

I have no doubts about why - there were about 2.7 billion of us the year I was born, now ~7.3 billion; all eating, pooping, taking up space, throwing away trash, etc. Just not clear to me how beggaring Canada, with .5% of the total burden on the planet, is going to do much to change the direction.

Yes I agree with more people more pollution, etc. Not sure what our kids or Grand Kids are gonna do

More a/c units and more natural disasters or climate change disasters. Gonna have to come up with

better fire fighting solution than what we have now, only  gonna get worse. Most of the Cedar trees are dying off

due too much change, extreme dry to extreme wet. So more dead fuel for bad fires.
