The Beau, next to my Buddy's '66 Chevelle 300 2d post, or "coach", as they were known in Canada, back in the day.
The NASCAR intake on his is a novel feature, probably Smokey Yunick's infamous #13 7/8s scale Chevelle had a 7/8s scale reproduction of this item, too. Precludes a factory heater box, so his Vintage a/c is all inside the firewall. He has the same cooling issue I do.
I'm putting the sheetmetal trim panel from the core support to the grill, like the one shown in the picture of my pal's car, and we're looking at means to close off air deflecting down and under the engine, as well, to try to deal with the cooling issue. The Chevelle has seen about a 20F rise in water jacket temps, as well, since his a/c went on, but he's not quite as critical as mine.
Using an IR sensor gun, mine was sitting at 206F, taken at the thermostat housing, after about twenty minutes drive on country roads, running 90-100 km/h, at roughly 22C ambients - 2000-2200 rpm, with few and brief stops, and the a/c off.
Warmer than I'd like to see under basically ideal conditions. Jerry's car clocked in between 190-195F going to a cruise-in, this a.m., under similar operating conditions. He's stirring a Tremec 5 gear, I've got the added load on the heat exchanger of a 700R, but that shouldn't make a huge difference in the heat rejection.
